Merced Sun-Star 14 & 15 April 2005 Tommy Gene Herring May 27, 1933 ~ April 11, 2005 Tommy G. Herring was born on May 27, 1933 in Mountain View, Oklahoma to the late Nellie and Thomas Herring and passed away at the age of 71 in San Jose, California. Tommy was a Merced County Resident for 69 years. Tommy served his country proudly in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 while stationed in Germany. He then became a Communications Technician and worked for Pacific Bell for 35 years. Tommy was preceded in death by his Parents Nellie Oldham Herring and Thomas Allen Herring, also preceding in death is his sister Evelyn Coats. Tommy is survived by his loving wife Norma Timmons Herring and their children, his son, daughter-in-law and grandson; David, Cheryl and Scott Herring all of San Jose, California, his son, daughter-in-law and step- grandson; Michael, Evelyn Herring and Trevor Posey. Further surviving are two sisters Noma Sprotte of North Fork, California and Juanella Fairbank of Merced, California. A public visitation for Tommy has been scheduled for Thursday, April 14, 2005 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow on Friday, April 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. all in the Chapel of Evergreen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family welcomes donations at the American Cancer Society at 301 West 18th Street in Merced, CA 95340; or at Hinds Hospice, P.O. Box 763 in Merced, CA 95341.
