Wilson Mahone, MD died early Thursday morning, Nov. 11, 2004 at the age of 89. He was born June 26, 1915 in Cordell to Charles and Ella (Wilson) Mahone. He graduated Hobart High School (Valedictorian) in 1932. In 1936, he completed his degree at OU, and was a 1939 graduate of the OU College of Medicine. He began his residency in Houston, TX, which was interrupted by his call into service during WWII. He served from 1941-1946 in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, including 3 years in China. He remained in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He returned to Houston to complete his residency. In 1947, he began private practice in Hobart with fellow classmate Ralph Phelan. Also that year he married Betty (Abby) Abbott of Durant. He was a general practioner for the next 26 years. In 1973, he once again attended the OU School of Medicine to complete a residency in Anesthesiology. He joined the staff at Baptist Hospital and practiced Anesthesiology for an additional 15 years, retiring in 1989. Upon retirement, he and his family became active members of the summer community in Spring Creek, CO. He loved movies, reading, new words, delicious sleep, lively discussions, time spent with good friends and music. He not ony had a beautiful singing voice, he was an accomplished pianist. Many friends and family were blessed to have him accompany them on sing-a-longs. He was a good friend and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother. He had a deep and abiding faith and was a long- time member of the Hobart Methodist Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his two sons: David Mahone of OKC and J. Kelly Mahone, MD of Hot Springs, AR; his daughter, Molly Holder and her husband Larry of Clinton; four grandchildren, Lauren Holder, Erin Holder, Mikey Mahone and Walter Wilson Mahone; brother, Tom Mahone; sister, Mary Gene McCoy; and two sisters in law, Betty Lou Mahone and Anna Lee Pullen. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Mike in 1969 and one brother Dr. Charles Mahone in 2001. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m Monday, November 15th at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel, with private burial in Hobart, OK. Memorials may be made to the OK Medical Research Foundation, or to your favorite charity. We wish to extend a special thank you to Molly and Monica Milot, Deaconess Hospital and Bellevue Health Center for the extraordinary kindness and care given to Dr. Mahone. You provided him with the dignity and control which he cherished.
