McElroy Jr., Mike M.    

Services are today Wednesday, September 19th, at 11:00 a.m. at First 
Free Will Baptist Church, 2236 East California Ave., Bakersfield, CA. 
Mike McElroy Jr. was born in Hobart, Oklahoma the oldest of eight 
siblings and moved to California as a child. Mike passed away in his 
home with his family from congestive heart failure on Thursday, 
September 13, 2007. He graduated from Kern County Union High School 
in 1948. In 1951, Mike married Charlotte "Peg" Thompson and shared 
his life with her for 56 years. After serving in the United States 
Army during the Korean conflict he worked as a salesman for Golden 
Crust Bakery, Dubois Chemicals and was a co-owner of Corkey's 
restaurant. He was a 50-year member of the Kern County Boat Club, 
Studebaker Drivers Club and Old Friends of Bakersfield Car Club. He 
loved boat races, old cars, good friends and above all his family. 
Mike lived life his own way and on his terms. He will be greatly 
missed by his wife "Peg"; their four daughters and son-in-laws, 
Michelle and Tom Church, Peggy and Jerry White, Sondra and Steve 
Gray, Bobbi and Michael Gould; six grandchildren, Kristina Mattson, 
Scott White, Tomi Hunt, Eryn Gray, Kyle White, Korey Gray and their 
spouses; and four great-grandchildren, Kyra, Koby, Matthew and 
Ashley. A special thanks from the family to Bakersfield Family 
Medical Center and Optimal Hospice for their compassion and excellent
