All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Walters Cemetery--Walters OK Lawton Constitution November 21, 2002 Laverne Tompkins Funeral for Laverne Tompkins, 84, Lawton, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Walters First United Methodist Church with Kip Wright officiating. Mrs. Tompkins died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, in Kingfisher. Burial will be at Walters Cemetery under direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters. She was born Aug. 26, 1918, in Mountain View to William Jay and Dovie Mae Walker Howard. She grew up in the Walters area, and graduated from Walters High School. She married Ivan Tompkins on Nov. 20, 1941, in Waurika. She worked at the Thompson Theater, east of Walters. They moved to Lawton in 1969, and she worked at Butler's Department Store. She was a member of Walters First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Iva Nell and Ron Wetzel, Kingfisher; a son, Donald Jay Tompkins, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren: Russell Wayne Wetzel, Washington, D.C.; and Richard Wade Wetzel and his wife, Leigh, Plano, Texas.
