The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ==================================================================== 11/10/02 Von Tungeln-- J.D. von Tungeln of Snyder died Tuesday at Southwestern Medical Center, Lawton. He was born in the Hobart area July 26, 1924 to parents Lloyd A. and Rachel Campbell von Tungeln and was a life long resident of Kiowa County. He married Loretta Rae Haley on Nov. 3, 1943 and they had two sons, Louis Lloyd and Kevin Ray, The resided in Hobart until 1964, before moving to Snyder where they remained until their deaths. J.D. was self-employed most of his life, having auto body and wrecker businesses in Hobart, Snyder and Altus. Active in local politics, J.D. served as mayor and city councilman of Snyder as well as a member of the ambulance board for many years. J.D. was active with the youth in Hobart and Snyder and was a scout leader. He enjoyed being involved with his sons sporting activities and served as president of the Snyder Quarterback Club. A life long race fan, J.D. started racing go-carts and later competed in mini- sprint racing with his boys. He served his country during World War II as a waist gunner on a B-24 bomber stationed in England, flying more than 50 bombing missions over Germany. He is survived by two sons, Louis Lloyd "Moe" and wife Debbie, Kevin Ray and wife Sue; six grandchildren, Heather and Bob Baker, Amber Smith, Kasey and Brady McCombs, Caitlin von Tungeln, Bradley von Tungeln and Christopher Fields. He has eight great-grandchildren, all of Altus. Linda von Tungeln of the home and her daughter Zoe and family of Snyder also survives him. His parents, his wife Loretta and his sister Dorthea Mae, preceded him in death. Note: not related to submitter
