All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== :NOT LISTED Coach Toby Wood, 1939 - 2005 Coach Toby Wood, 66, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at his home in Runaway Bay. Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Memorials: Bruce Wood Dance Company, P.O. Box 11365, Fort Worth, Texas 76110. Toby Lewis Wood was born in Hobart, Okla. on July 14, 1939. He was raised in Lone Wolf, Okla., where he was an exceptional athlete. Upon graduating from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, he followed his passion of coaching football and teaching throughout Texas for over 30 years. Throughout his career he was always known for leading his teams into the playoffs culminating in winning the 1971 AA High School State Football Championship while coaching the Jacksboro Tigers. That same year he was awarded "Coach of the Year" by the Texas High School Football Coaches Association. Toby was known as "Coach" by all of his players and friends throughout his life. He never met a person he didn't like, and you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who did not like him in return. He was a generous and selfless mentor to all of his football players and students. After retiring from Birdville Independent School District as athletic director, he moved to Runaway Bay, where he continued to enjoy his good friends, golfing buddies and family. Survivors: Son, Bruce Wood; daughter, Tanna Wood, along with his other son, Trent Wood and wife, Brigitte; and his grandchildren, Laurel and Sarah.
