All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::South Kern District Cemetery--Arvin CA Reed, Joe Ray A graveside service under the direction of Arvin Funeral Home will be held at South Kern Cemetery District on Friday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. for Joe Ray Reed, age 78, of Arvin, who passed away on Friday, February 23, 2007, in Bakersfield. Pastor Craig Amos of Arvin Assembly of God Church will officiate the service and interment will follow. A visitation will be held at Arvin Funeral Home on Thursday, March 1 from 2-8 p.m. Joe Ray Reed was born on March 5, 1928 at Wilburton, Oklahoma. He was one of twin boys born to Porter Jack Reed and Thelma Estella Rea Reed. Joe never married, and was a great comfort to his father and mother whom he always loved. The family moved to California from Oklahoma in 1945. Joe worked many years in the oil industry, and being skilled in many areas of oil field work, the quality and quantity of his work was never questioned. Joe loved to hunt and fish. When he picked up his fishing tackle, no fish was safe for a one hundred mile radius of Bakersfield. Joe served in the U.S. Army, and saw action in Korea. Joe's Korean War service during the tough fighting in 1951 and 1952, earned him the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star. Joe is survived by three sisters, Norma Jean Brister, and Betty Sue Wilkins of Porterville, Shirley Ann Frick, of Tehachapi; six brothers, P.J., Tommy, and Dan of Tehachapi, John of Arvin, Jim of Ridgecrest, and Bob of Anaconda, Montana. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Porter Jack Reed and Thelma Estella Rea Reed; three brothers, Arnold D. of Taft, Bill, of Bakersfield, and Douglas of Arvin.
