The jury received the case at 5 p.m. Friday, reported at 10 a.m. that they were deadlocked nine to three, and were sent back to continue deliberations by District Judge Ben Belew. Terry took the stand in his own defense Friday, telling jurors he shot Lemons after the latter resisted arrest, knocked him down three times and was approaching him. State witnesses said Terry shot Lemons after the latter halted in response to Terry's request.
