Rains :Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery--France Curtis A. Rains, the son of JAMES H. C. and LONA C. (WILEMAN) RAINS and my mother's first cousin, Poteau, LeFlore County, Oklahoma, entered the Service from LeFlore County, Oklahoma, and served as a Private First Class, U S Army, with the 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, during World War I. CURTIS was born September 1, 1898, in LeFlore County, Indian Territory, and killed in action on October 8, 1918, in France. He was buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery at Plot H, Row 38, Grave 12, in Romagne, France. As part of the World War I Mothers' Pilgrimage offered by the U.S. War Department, MRS. LONA RAINS went to France to see her son's final resting place. CURTIS' name is engraved on the War Memorial Monument that is in front of the LeFlore County Courthouse in Poteau. His name is listed in "AMERICAN SOLIDERS OF WORLD WAR I • SOLDIERS OF THE GREAT WAR, Volume 1", page 115.
