Her death was due to cancer, a battle she endured for the past 10 months. Mother was born Oct. 16, 1926, to the union of Roy and Oleasa Newman in Heavener, Okla. She was married in 1945 to Kenneth Allison. In 1948, they moved to California, making their home in Oxnard for the majority of those years. Mother and Dad had five children, so mother was busy being a room mother for one or more of the kids each years. She was a Little League team mom and for many years ran the snack bar. She always worked the voting polls, which she took great pride in. Her greatest joy was teaching youth Sunday school at Oxnard Freewill Baptist Church for many years and was given the honor of being named teacher of the year at the church. Working for God and following his word has always been in her. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Judy Linzey of Oxnard; sons, Randy (wife Carol) Allison of Canoga Park, Greg Allison of Arkansas, Jerry (wife Diane) Allison of Camarillo and Larry Allison of Oxnard; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, one of which she didn't get to meet, Sierra, born Dec. 3. During her last years, her greatest joy was, as she called them, the 'babies.' She loved being with them and they loved being with Grandma Purdy. They will truly miss her, as we all will. She leaves three loving and caring brothers, Charles (wife Nancy) Newman of Idaho, Bill (wife Diane) Newman of Santa Maria, and Harvey (wife Linda) Newman of Atascadero; forever caring cousins, Idabelle and Harold Moody; a most faithful friend, Virginia Douglas; she had a special love for her nephew Mike, who loved his Aunt Bernice; plus many more nephews, nieces and friends. Mother was loved by so many people. She was a special person. Mother was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Stacy Knappenberger (1980); and husband, Kenneth Allison (February 2004). God saw you getting tired And a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you, and whispered, 'Come with me.' - author unknown Mother, we will miss you so much, but we all know you are in a better place now, your body is healed, no more pain, no more suffering. We love you, your kids. Visitation and viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Payton Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at Payton Mortuary. Interment will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.
