All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== John Melvin Goodwin John Melvin Goodwin Sept. 29, 1924 - Dec. 8, 2001 Services: Sat., Dec. 15, at 2PM A celebration of the life of John Melvin Goodwin will be held Saturday, December 15th, 2pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield with Pastor Claudie Hames of First Free Will Baptist Church. Graveside service to follow. John was born September 29, 1924 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Clara and Ray Goodwin. He resided in Bakersfield for 50 years. John was preceded in death by his infant son John Raymond Goodwin, a loving wife of 50 years, Mary M. Goodwin, sisters Bernice Haxton and Julia Shippy. He is survived by three children, Kenneth Goodwin, Steve Goodwin and wife Anita, Clara Basta, all of Bakersfield, grandchildren Julie Goodwin, Randi and Sean Hendrix, John Goodwin, Charlie and Jennifer Basta, Maureen Goodwin, Mark Basta, Jaclyn and Darin Otts, great grandchildren, Lil Sean, Ethan, Saydra, Adrian, sisters Betty Wheeler, of Oklahoma and Edna Brown of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. John served in the Navy as a plane captain aboard an air craft carrier in WWII. John was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His greatest joy was being with family and friends. The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to all of those who have helped in Johns care, especially sister-in-law Jimmie Hubbard, Victoria, Tracy and Liz Terrel. The family has requested for those who chose to, in lieu of flowers, make a contribution to a charity of their choice in memory of John.
