Hale Services: Sat., July 21, 10:30 a.m. Memorial services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, Saturday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. for Dillard Dean and Eleanor S. Hale. Eleanor passed away November 6, 2000 in Bakersfield at the age of 80 and Dillard passed away July 8, 2001 in Bakersfield at the age of 85. Martin Belcher and The Veterans Association of Kern County will officiate. Eleanor was born October 18, 1920 in Monticello, Florida to John and Nellie Shuman. She graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1942 with a degree in Dietetics and was immediately asked to join the military service. She served in the Army Medical Corp, 53rd General Hospital as a Dietician with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. In 1943 she boarded a troop ship to serve in a hospital located in South Central England. In November 1946 she was discharged with the rank of Captain. Eleanor met her future husband, Dillard D. Hale, also stationed at the 53rd General in 1947, moved to Bakersfield and married. Dillard and Eleanor both trained in cosmetology, resided and worked in Bakersfield for over 50 years, primarily at Tower Hairdressers located on Chester Ave. Dillard was born November 18, 1915 in Cowlington, Oklahoma and had resided in Kern County for 54 years. Dillard was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Elks. They are survived by their sons and daughter-in-law, Richard hale of Bakersfield, Ronald and Mary Hale of Florida, and Thomas Hale of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Randy Thomas Hale, Kevin Dillard Hale, Adam Burt Hale, Alexander Shuman Hale, Michelle Azevedo Hale, Austin Alan Hal, Alanna Azevedo Hale, Maria Hale and Aaron Hale; brothers and sister-in- law, Cliff and Ellen Hale of Wasco, and Melvin Hale of Sacramento; numerous nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Clarence Johnson of Bakersfield. No visitation is scheduled. We will miss you and love you always.
