William was born on October 19, 1929, in Talihina, Oklahoma, to Aaron James (one of the original Choctaw Enrolees), and Cleo (Johnson) James. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. William retired from the Choctaw Nation as a Maintenance Technician. William was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alice Ann James and Mildred James. He is survived by two sisters, Henryetta Holman of Horton, Kansas and Lafonda Matthews of Muskogee, Oklahoma; three brothers, Harry James of Talihina, Bill James of Muskogee, and Jimmy James of Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma; a niece, Sarah Chandler, and a nephew, Chris James both of Poteau; numerous other nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends. Graveside services will begin at 2:00 PM, Friday, at Good Springs Cemetery, east of Whitesboro, Oklahoma, with the Rev. Ronnie Tom officiating. Services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
