Long, William Henry "Hank" WILLIAM HENRY (HANK) LONG Passed away February 22, 2007 in Pleasanton, CA. Born October 24, 1925 in Star, Oklahoma (a town no longer in existence). William was also a resident of Bokoshe, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of five children. As a teenager he would hop freight trains. At 16 he traveled to Portland, Oregon and eventually worked in the shipyards as a welder during the war. After he married, he built the family home in Dalles, Oregon overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. He built houses, churches and buildings along the west coast and Arizona and was known for his rock fireplaces. He was a life member of the International Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #3 for 55 years. He always had a joke or story to tell to friends and even complete strangers. He always lent a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He never flew on an airplane. As a hobby he made birdhouses and potting tables. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survived by daughters, Cathleen Estepp of Portland, OR and Denise Long of Pleasanton, CA; sons, William (Rebecca) Long of Snohomish, WA and Robert (Merle) Long of Yacolt, WA; brother, James Harlan Long of Spiro, OK; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Betty Jeanne Long and son, Kenneth Long. At William's request, no services were held.
