Memorial services for Mozelle McCollum will be 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2003 in the Otto Chapel at Landsun Manor with Chaplain Erwin Van Essen of Landsun Homes and Pastor Sam Lanham of First Presbyterian Church officiating. A private entombment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Mozelle McCollum was born July 4, 1908 in Talihina, OK. She was the youngest of three daughters of Lee and Effie Lee Adams Armstrong. She was married to Virgil O. McCollum Jr. on January 25, 1929 in Clovis, NM. They resided in Carlsbad for 29 years. Mr. McCollum was a longtime employee of U.S. Potash Company in Carlsbad and U.S. Borax in Los Angeles, CA. They moved to Los Angeles in 1959 and returned to New Mexico in 1970. They lived in Albuquerque until 1990 when they returned to Carlsbad. Mozelle loved to play bridge and had been a hospital volunteer (gray lady). She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church for many years and was quite active in the church. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include son, Dr. Virgil O. McCollum and wife, Carolyn, of Carlsbad; daughter, Ann Sawey and husband, retired Col. James Sawey, of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jane Castillo, Leslie Sawey, Michael and Dr. Mark McCollum; and nine great-grandchildren.
