All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Duncan Banner 29 Aug 2003 James Ralph Roop LINDSAY — James Ralph Roop, 89, of Lindsay passed away Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, in Oklahoma City. Service was to be at 1:30 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church of Lindsay with the Rev. Gene Sanders officiating and the Rev. Randy Allen assisting. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Loving Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Fowler officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay. James was born April 14, 1914, to James Leonard and Effie Powers Roop of Loving. After graduating high school, James went on to Oklahoma A & M and received a master’s degree in Business Administration. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He married Imogene Cooper on Dec. 22, 1945, in Poteau. He married his second wife, Bernice Hood, on Nov. 6, 1976, in Lindsay. When James moved to Lindsay in 1957, he was the manager of the local lumber yard. He was involved in the American Legion. He loved woodworking, playing dominoes, and volunteering for the senior citizens. James was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lindsay. Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, James R. Jr. and Janie Roop and Joe and Claire Roop, all of Oklahoma City, Jerry and Nancy Roop of Duncan, Jim and Ann Hood of Nashville, Ark., Jack and Laura Hood of Fort Smith, Ark., and Bob and Linda Hood of Piedmont; two daughters and a son-in-law, Margie and Gene Donoho of Guthrie, and Ann Shoemake of Lindsay; a sister, Margaret Manning of Heavener; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Imogene, in 1975; his second wife, Bernice, in 1998; a daughter, Pat Jordan in 1983; a great-grandson; two brothers, Hoyt Roop and Cecil Roop; and a sister, Louise Roop.
