[SWEAZY] RAINWATER Mar. 18, 1923 - Sept. 15, 2004 Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on September 18, 2004 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd, for Ruth Mildred Rainwater, 81, of Bakersfield, who passed away quietly in her sleep on Sept. 15, 2004 after a short illness. Visitation will be Friday, September 17, 2004 from 4-8 p.m. at Bakersfield Family Funeral Directors, 701 34Th Street. Ruth was born in Spiro, Oklahoma on March 18, 1923, in the house her Daddy built, on the 160 acre farm he had purchased from the Cherokee Nation. She moved to California in 1948, settling in Bakersfield. She worked as a back-up cook at various restaurants in town, including Freddie s Skyway House at the airport and the Red Lion Hotel. In 1981, she began working for United Courier/Armed Transport as a dispatcher, retiring from there in 1992. She truly loved all the people she worked with and kept in touch with a few special ones throughout the years. Ruth touched many people with her love, her zest for life, her laughter, and her crochet. She loved making spongies that she gave to family and friends. She also made doilies and many new babies received a crocheted baby blanket made especially for them. Ruth didnt know a stranger. She could talk to anyone about anything and made friends everywhere in the grocery store, the drug store, anywhere. She loved her childrens friends as if they were her own and was Momma Ruth to many. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, James and Blanche Sweazy; brother, Carl; sons, James Jim Wright and Allen Rainwater; grandson, Phillip Rainwater. Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Alfred Rainwater of Bakersfield; her children, Wayne Wright and wife, Eileen of Merced, Larry Rainwater, Linda Petree and spouse, Joe Avilez, all of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Lori and Matt Wright, David and Debbie Wright, Chris and Amy Petree, Amber and Tom Fischer, James, Shayna, Crystal, Albert and Shyanna Rainwater, Faith Comer, and Robert Branch; great-grandchildren, Janniche, Tor, Blake, Caleb, Levi and Cody; and numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and fiends. Mom. You have always been my best friend, my confidante, my hero and the sunshine of my life.
