She was born Lorena Reynolds in Stigler, Okla., to Joseph and Annie Reynolds, the fifth of nine children. Her father was a sharecropper and her mother worked in the fields with him and the children. From 7 years old, she stayed home with the younger ones and took care of the home. She met Anthony (Chief) Vann at a dance and within months they were married. She was 16 and he was 21. They had five children: Lillian, Kerman, Patsy, Brenda and Alvin. They came from Oklahoma to Kingsburg and in 1946 they moved to Pleasant Valley Farms where Chief was promoted to foreman in 1950 where they raised their children. He retired and went to work for the Coalinga Parks and Recreation District as caretaker for Camp Pinecrest (Yaeger). She raised beautiful flowers and gardens. In 1997, Chief passed away and Lorena lived with one of her daughters until she had to go to Ralph Neate Extended Care until she passed away in September at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six of her brothers, two children and one granddaughter. She is survived by three children: Lillian Moore, Patsy Richardson, and Alvin Vann; two of her siblings Ellen Fields and William Reynolds and seven grandchildren, Russ, Paul, Jodi, Tonya, Erick, Matt and Marni.
