She is survived by her daughter, Robin W. (Joe) Neely; and son, D. Michael (Lennie) Winton; her grandsons, Dan (Kayla) Winton, of Clovis, Christopher Winton, of Amarillo, Texas and Joel Neely, of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Colin (Dan) Meneilly; great-grandchildren, Donnell Robin Taylor Winton, Brayden and Devin Mitchell, all of Clovis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Robin and Albert M. Chambers Jr.; sisters, Alberta McClenahan and Jess Chambers; nephews, Pat and Malcolm McClenahan; and her husband, Don L. Winton in 1996. Nell graduated high school in Quinton, Okla., at the age of sixteen, after acquiring nurses' training in Lubbock, Texas. Nell accompanied and assisted her father, a physician, in caring for the Indian people throughout the Western United States. Their love for the Native American led them to live near several Indian Reservations in Washington, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. She was a gifted pianist, singer and dancer, sharing her love of music with her family and friends. She and a friend became the "Harmony Twins" and performed at dances, church functions and on the radio. She was a much sought after entertainer. In her early twenties, she traveled extensively up and down the Eastern Seaboard from New York to Florida. In later years, she loved to tell stories to her family of meeting dignitaries, governors, mayors and movie stars, with her favorite being, Dizzy Dean, while he was in spring training in Florida. At the onset of the Depression, she went back to Oklahoma to help her sister and brother-in-law in caring for her niece and nephews. She remained with them as their beloved Aunt Nell for 11 years. During this time, she purchased a hotel where the family resided until the re-routing of the railroad caused, as she put it, the demise of the hotel. On April 11, 1941, after an eleven-year courtship, she married Don Winton, the love of her life, in Tallehina, Okla. They resided in McAlester, Okla., where both of their children were born, moving to Clovis in May of 1956. She instilled in her children a love of music, family and laughter. With her family, she was first and foremost, a homemaker, who loved and supported her family tirelessly. She was mother not only to her children, but to her grandson, Dan and numerous nieces and nephews. Nell was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007, at 1 P.M., at the First Baptist Church, 301 Gidding, Clovis, N.M., with Dr. Joel Horne officiating. The family requests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Chruch building fund.
