Hallock Oklahoma Homestead Notes The following is a compilation of what is known about the homestead process as it applies to the homestead claimed by Daniel B. Hallock at Lot 4 and the East Half of the South West 1/4 of Section 19, Township 18 North, Range 2 West of the Indian Meridian, being Mulhall Township, Logan County, Oklahoma Territory on the Patent date of 05 November 1895. This Patent contained 124.51 acres. On 09 August 1889, Daniel Hallock made application, number 4406, to enter the homestead, Lot 4 and the East Half of the SW 1/4, Section 19, Township 18-N, Range 2-W, containing 124.51 acres and was issued a receipt for fees paid of $13.11. Notation on this receipt shows that Lot 4 was 44.51 acres and the East Half being 80 acres. On 18 April 1895, Daniel Hallock signed the homestead paper at Guthrie, Oklahoma Territory, stating that he intended to make final proof on this homestead property on 25 June 1895. He listed as witnesses the following: Charles Bocox of Mulhall, O.T. Daniel N. Cable of Mulhall, O.T. John J. Mallon of Mulhall, O.T. John F, Fasken of Mulhall, O.T. On 29 April 1895, the Register, A. N. Crook appends the statement that the application will be published in the Mulhall Enterprise, at Mulhall, O.T. And that a printed copy of the notice was posted for 30 days in the Land Office at Guthrie, Oklahoma. He signed this on 25 June 1895. The proof of publication with the clipping attached was signed by an unreadable signature and noterized by W.H. Matthews on 08 June 1895 and states it was printed once a week for 6 weeks, first being published 04 May 1895. The cover of the Cash Entry document number 1128 and showing the application number 4406, shows the homestead process was approved on 09 October 1895 and that it was patented on 05 November 1895 and recorded in Volume 3, Page 63. In the Final Affidavit as a part of the Homestead Proof Daniel Hallock states he has lived on the property since 16 January 1890 and shows a signing and approval date of 25 June 1895. At the same time, 25 June 1895, Daniel Hallock was issued a receipt for cash paid at the receiver's office of $3.11 for the 124.50 acres (with a note penciled in if 124.51 acres) as being the balance due plus a testimony fee of $.75 There are two affidavits submitted, one dated 09 August 1889 and 17 June 1890 concerning the previous entry in Iowa at the North West Quarter of the North West Quarter of Section 10, Township 90, Range 32 , ( Bellville Township ), in Pocahontas County, Iowa and filed at Fort Dodge, Iowa. Entry date given on the 17 June 1890 affidavit being 02 (?)October 1870 and the piece being 40 acres. In the 09 August 1889 affidavit he gives an entry date of November 1872. Probably the most interesting of the forms filed are the Homestead Proof - Testimony of Claimant and Testimony of Witness forms filed on 25 June 1895. The Testimony of Claimant form filed by Daniel Hallock sets out the following details: 1. He states that he is Daniel B. Hallock, P.O. Mulhall, Oklahoma Territory and is 67 years of age. 2. He states that he is a citizen and was born in Connecticut. 3. He states that he is the same person who filed entry number 4406 at Guthrie on 09 August 1889, for Lot4 and the East Half of the South West quarter of Section 19, Township 18 North of Range 2 West of the Indian Meridian, Oklahoma Territory. 4. I quote in full. "1st of September 1889. 16th of January 1890, made residence that day with my family. Frame house 14 x 16, Stable 16 x 20, well, cave, 200 fruit trees, corral, hen house, granary, 55 acres cultivated. Value $500.00. 5. He states he has a wife and three children and is married. 6. He states that he has not been absent from the homestead. 7. I quote in full. "1890, 10 acres. 1891, 20 acres. 1892, Same. 1893, 55 acres. 1894, Same. 5 Seasons. 8. He states that the location is not in a city or town or used for business or trade. 9. He describes the land as - and I quote in full. " Prairie land. Farming" 10. He states that he does not know of any mineral deposits on the land and is for agriculture. 11. He states that he had made a previous homestead entry and gives the following details: "I filed a homestead application on 40 acres of land at Fort Dodge, Iowa, Land Office about 20 years ago, don't remember the numbers." 12. He states that he has not sold, conveyed, or mortgaged any portion of this land. 13. He states that he has no other personal property of any kind elsewhere. The Testimony of Witness form signed by Charles A. Bocox is generally the same as for Alfred Hallock's statement with the following exceptions or additions: 1. He states he is Charles A. Bocox, age 29 of P.O. Mulhall, O.T. 4. He gives the character of the land as - and I quote. "Prairie farming land" 5. He states he first saw him on the land on 16 January 1890 with his family. 9. He states that the improvements listed above are about the same except he calls a cellar what Charles calls a cave and total value of $400.00 The Testimony of Witness form signed by Daniel N. Cable adds nothing except that he states that he is Daniel N. Cable, age 49, P.O. Mulhall, O.T.
