His father, Thomas Loy, died when Robert was a child I have, with much kind help from Delores Walls, been able to trace the Loy family back to Martin Loy who came to America from Germany in 1741. The Complete Loy History (By Delores Walls) can be found at www.fortunecity.com/millenium/paddington/63/index.html) In the 1880 Effingham, Illinois census, Robert was living with his brother David's widow Emma and his brother Thomas and Thomas' wife Anna. Robert married Clara SMITH in 1881, and in 1900 lived in Effingham. He attended and taught at Loy School in Effingham, Illinois. His occupation was in the hardware and then grocery business in Effingham. In 1910 there was a fever to go to Oklahoma. Many people from Effingham migrated to Oklahoma around this time. Some went to Antlers, Oklahoma, such as the Kincaids (descended from Robert's uncle James Edward Loy) and the sons of Thomas S. Loy (son of Robert's uncle Joseph C. Loy) and Bryan McCallen (descendant of Robert's aunt Sarah Loy Gillespie/McKinnon). The children of Robert LOY and Clara SMITH LOY are: Arlin F. LOY (lived in Guthrie, Oklahoma and died in 1964) Vorhess M. LOY lived in Effingham, Ill. and died in ca 1902 (killed by a train) Ruby LOY (born 1887 Effingham, Ill. and lived in Enid Oklahoma) Clyde LOY (born 1889 Effingham, Ill. and died 1972 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) Robert Leo LOY (died ca 1986) Paul Prentice LOY (born 1893 Effingham, Ill. died 1974 Shawnee, Oklahoma) Harry Clifford LOY (born 1896 Effingham, Ill. died 1938 Guthrie, Oklahoma) Harry Clifford LOY married Esther Ellen GRISWOLD in 1924 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. With the Help of the Griswold Family Assocation, and with many thanks to Coralee Griswold, I was able to trace the GRISWOLD line back to 1620. IN MEMORY OF HARRY LOY May 1st 1938 A man has been called from his labors While engaged in a fruitful life And leaves behind his neighbors, A son and loving wife. No, he leaves us a challenge As we march down the road of fate To live as he lived among us. With our hope of reward as great God walks in his garden of flowers And looks about for the best To place in a heavenly bower And there for eternity rest So the rest of us laboring here May look at the glittering stars And see through the mist of our fears The good things in life as they are Oh, how weak and how trustless are we Thinking only from day to day If we only had a vision to see The reward only fellowship pays For he had the gift of true friendship Alike to his fellow men, And although we search through this vale of sorrow We'll find no one just like him again Signed CEB From the 1903 Western Star Newspaper in Lerado, Ohio Samuel Griswold from New York Elizabeth Hoffman New Jersey until 8 years old Levi Griswold born in Wayne Township of Clarmont Co. After his father Ellison Crews died, his mother Sarah and three sons, James, Ellison and William Crews moved to Monroe County, Iowa where they are listed in the 1850 US census. James was married here and all of their children were born in Iowa. In 1877 the family moved west in a covered wagon, 608 miles, and settled on a school section near Austin, Sumner County, Kansas. James Crews came home ill from work one day. Rhoda helped him to bed and sent for a doctor. He did not regain consciousness and died of a stroke in 1881, age 63 years.
