Sharp, M.D. who declares; that he is a physician of four years experience and is personally acquainted with the above named soldier Tobias Capper. And on physical examination find him to be in my judgment almost totally incapacitated for doing a man's work. I find him able to do no more than one tenth of an able bodied man's work. Special examination reveals evidence of impaired vision especially of the left eye caused by affection of optic nerve with slight Glaucoma caused by measles and exposure following in active service of the U.S.Army from 1861 to 1864. I find evidence of mitral regurgitation due to aortic insufficiency. Also find left lung partially consolidated all of which I believe to have been contracted in the regular service. General health is poor as a result of the above named disabilities, degree of disability 9/10. Signed, E.G. Sharp, M.D. May 5, 1898 Dept of the Interior Bureau of Pensions, Washington, D.C.
