Hallock Oklahoma Homestead Notes The following is a compilation of what is known about the homestead process as it applies to the homestead claimed by Wallace J. On 07 March 1898, Wallace Hallock signed the homestead paper at Guthrie, Oklahoma Territory, stating that he intended to make final proof on this homestead property on 19 April 1898. He listed as witnesses the following: Anton Testerof Mulhall, O.T. Charlton W. Wilcox of Nulhall, O.T. Charles A. Bocox of Mulhall, O.T. John A. Gouty of Mulhall, O.T. On 07 March 1898, the Register, A. N. Crook appends the statement that the application will be published in the Enterprise, at Mulhall, O.T. On 19 April 1898, John J. Boles, Register, states that he first posted said notice, a printed copy , was posted for 30 days in the Land Office at Guthrie, Oklahoma beginning 07 March 1898 . The proof of publication with the clipping attached was signed by James H. Learr and notarized by G.E. Burford on 18 April 1898 and states it was printed once a week for 6 weeks, first being published 12 March 1898. The cover of the Homestead Application number 7616 and showing the Final Certificate Number 2927, shows the homestead process was approved on 04 June 1898 and that it was patented on 23 June 1898 and recorded in Volume 12, Page 398. In the Final Affidavit as a part of the Homestead Proof Wallace Hallock states he has lived on the property since 06 October 1891 and shows a signing date of 19 April 1898. At the same time, 19 April 1898, Wallace Hallock was issued a receipt for cash paid at the receiver's office of $1.11 for the 44.33 acres as being the balance due plus a testimony fee of $1.20. Probably the most interesting of the forms filed are the Homestead Proof - Testimony of Claimant and Testimony of Witness forms filed on 19 April 1898. The Testimony of Claimant form filed by Wallace Hallock sets out the following details: 1. He states that he is Wallace J. Hallock, P.O. Mulhall, Oklahoma Territory and is 31 years of age. 2. He states that he is a citizen and was born in Massachusetts 3. He states that he is the same person who filed entry number 7616 at Guthrie on 04 June 1891, for Lot 3 of Section 19, Township 18 North of Range 2 West of the Indian Meridian, Oklahoma Territory. 4. "I cultivated 10 acres 1892, 20 acres 1893, 23 acres 1894, 1895, 1896 & 1897. Six seasons" 8. He states that the location is not in a city or town or used for business or trade. 9. He describes the land as - and I quote in full. " Upland, Prairie, Black loam. Farming" 10. He states that he does not know of any mineral deposits on the land. 11. No sir. 12. He states that he has not sold, conveyed, or mortgaged any portion of this land. 13. He states that he has no other personal property of any kind elsewhere. The Testimony of Witness form signed by Anton Tester is generally the same as for Wallace Hallock's statement with the following exceptions or additions: 1. He states he is Anton Tester, age 55 , of P.O. Mulhall, Oklahoma Territory. 4. He gives the character of the land as - and I quote. "Upland prairie" 5. He states he first saw him on the land in October 1891. The Testimony of Witness form signed by Charlton W. Wilcox adds nothing except that he states that he is Charlton W. Wilcox, age 50, of P.O. Mulhall, Oklahoma Territory.
