Elder, age 41, Woodward, OK, formerly of Guthrie, were held at the First Christian Church, Monday, January 13, 2003. Dr. Dennis E. Clark officiated. Private family burial services was held at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, OK. Services are under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Guthrie, OK. He was born on August 20, 1961 in Guthrie, to Ray F. and Ada Belle (Balsiger) Elder. Emmett graduated in 1979 from Guthrie High School. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Guthrie, and the Elks Lodge, #1355, Woodward. Most of his life he worked in the Great Outdoors and he loved his profession in the oil and gas industry and was employed by Chaparral Energy, Inc. Emmett enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends watching the big game or going to the lake. Deer hunting and the Mardi Gras celebration were also a favorite pastime. Golfing with his son was very special to him. He was very involved with the Woodward Elks Lodge during the annual Easter Egg hunt and the rodeo and was Chairman for their first Angel Tree Project. Survivors are his mother, Ada Belle Elder, Guthrie, one son, Wayne Elder, Fairview, OK, one daughter Joy Elder, Oklahoma City, OK, one sister and brother-in-law, Lyndia Rae and Kevin McMahon, and two nephews Eric Regis McMahon and Ethan Ray McMahon, all of Shreveport, LA. He was the Godfather to Ethan Ray; also, two grandchildren Caleb and Hannah; several aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends Bobby and Julie Coslett, and many, many other friends. He was preceded in death by his father Ray F. Elder, and his grandparents Ernest and Mary (Meier) Balsiger and Frank and Verna (Crist) Elder. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Emmett Elder Angel Tree Project care of Elks Lodge #1355, P. 0. Box 277, Woodward, OK. 73802.
