Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery at Coyle. Alpha was born April 16, 1909 in Coyle to Horatio Dick and Maude Josephine (Burnett) Goble. She died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Cole's Rest Haven Nursing Home. Faye had lived in the Coyle and Guthrie area all of her life. She was known as Aunt Faye to hundreds after having cooked for Camp Cimarron for 25 years during the summer, during the school year she was cafeteria manager for Coyle Public Schools. She was a member of the Coyle Christian Church. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Brake and husband Vernon, Coyle; one sister, Dora Jane Cordis, Guthrie; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and five sisters. Blevins was born on Oct. 19, 1923 in Dewey, Okla. and departed this life on Jan. 4, 2001 in Shreveport, La. at the age of 77 years. Mary was the daughter of Edward Everett and Stella (Hutchinson) Burget. Mary received her doctorate of education from Oklahoma State University and taught for many years in the Oklahoma City and Guthrie school systems. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Blevins; three sisters; and four brothers. Survivors include one son, Al Blevins of Guthrie; two daughters, Lynnette Metts and Linda Liles, both of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Don Burget and Bill Burget, both of California; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Published - Tuesday, January 9, 2001 Odis Sherman Atchley Odis Sherman Atchley, 78, of Edmond, passed away Sunday evening, January 7, 2001, with his loving wife Maxine by his side. Born September 27, 1923, in Wetumka, Oklahoma, Odis was the second to the oldest of 10 children of Earl and Beatrice Atchley. Odis proudly served in World War II in Germany. Married 49 years on January 6, Odis enjoyed his love of horses with his family and served as President of the Edmond Round-Up Club two terms where his greatest accomplishment was the organization and completion of the then new Round-Up Arena on Kelley. Retired as a homebuilder and developer in Edmond and Oklahoma City area after 30 years, he was also a member of the Central Home Builders Associationfor many years. A loving father of five children, Odis is survived by his wife and children Wayne Atchley of Omaha, Nebraska, Gary Atchley of Edmond, Janice Pitchford of Guthrie, and Darrell Atchley of Oklahoma City. Preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Linda Atchley, brothers George Atchley, Bob Atchley and James Atchley, Odis is also survived by his sisters, Maxine Hoskins of Okeene, Sue Symes of Oklahoma City, Vern-ma Dean Daniels of Pecos, Texas, and Nadine Carter of Oklahoma City, and brothers C.E. Atchley of Paris, Arkansas and Jerry Atchley of Edmond. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Cleo Noe Lamson of Edmond, sister-in-law Helen Fitzwater of Edmond, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Rudy was born Sept. 9. 1955, in Guthrie, to Rudolph and Dorthey (Fry)Labus. He died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001. Rudy was born in Guthrie where he attended school until he joined the US Army in 1972. He served four years at Ft. Sill. After leaving the Army, he returned to Guthrie and attended Central State for one semester. He then was employed with Autoquip as a painter and later as a machinist. Following that he worked for Baker Hughes as a machinist and programmer. Rudy married Winnie "Fay" Nealis on Oct. 22, 1988, in Mulhall at the Mulhall First Baptist Church. From 1990 until his death, he worked for Applied Industrial Machining as their CNC Programmer. Rudy loved his children and his loving wife. His hobbies included bicycling, motorcycling and spending time on his computer. He loved riding bicycles with his daughters. You could say Rudy enjoyed living life to the fullest and he will be missed by his family and friends. Rudy is survived by his wife, Fay of the home; one son, Nikolaus Albert of Guthrie; three daughters, Kara May, Tara Kay and Trudy Danae of the home in Edmond; one brother, Michael and wife Shelly and their children, Brittany and Anthony of Edmond; his mother, Dorthey (Labus) Del Rio and husband, Efren of Edmond, and his father, Rudolf, Sr. of Guthrie. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Savanna and Pittsburg County Extension Homemakers. Leona was born February 2, 1908 in Pleasant Valley to Guy and Martha (Miniskan) Hall. She died Monday, January 8, 2001 at Logan Hospital and Medical Center in Guthrie. She had lived in Guthrie all of her life and was a housewife and homemaker. She attended the Bible Baptist Church. She married Willard Wesley Barker on Nov. 26, 1924 in Guthrie. He preceded her in death in June of 1949. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four sons, Willard Barker, Jr., Bennie Barker, Sr., Olen Barker and Donald Barker; three sisters, two brothers and one great-great-grandson. He was a retired real estate broker and property manager specializing in residential homes and buildings. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elsie Shellhammer, in 1997. He was a member of Tulsa Bible Church where he served in several positions, most recently that of Usher. Survivors include his son, Mark Shellhammer, of Tulsa; two daughters, Mary Ann Cosper, of Warrenton, Mo. and Linda Mullan, Tyler, Texas; his surviving siblings from 12, one brother, Buster Shellhammer, of Tulsa and one sister, June Henry, of Lawrence, Kan.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He died Jan. 10, 2001 at Crescent. He was a farmer and a member of the Crescent VFW and Crescent American Legion. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Jewel and Maxine "Pat" Slusher were married Oct. 12, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She preceded him in death Sept. 12, 1999. He passed away in his home January 9, 2001. He and his three sisters attended school in Guthrie. In 1950, he married JoAnn Morrison, his beloved wife of 46 years. He began his career with Clarence L. Boyd Company in 1936, retiring in 1978. Harold cherished the many dear friendships he had established with his co-workers. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing. Harold was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a very kindhearted man. He was always there for friends and family. Harold will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Sullivan and three grandchildren, Tiffany Kemp and husband Tom, Jackson Sullivan, DDS and Scot Sullivan, MD. She cruised around the tip of South America, climbed the highest peaks in Colorado and handed out balloons, Bibles and Christian literature to the Communists in Russia. Marthena, known to family and friends as "Aunt Babe," never married, but was instrumental in the rearing of her five nieces and nephews, who invite the public to join them at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17 at the First Christian Church in Crescent to celebrate the life of "Aunt Babe" and send her on her way to Glory in a spirit-filled service of music, verse and scripture. Kissner served in the Pacific during World War II with the 51st Field Artillery Battalion, and was honorably discharged in November 1945. He lived and worked in Denver, CO after his army service and moved to Guthrie in June, 2000. She died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 at Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Guthrie. Myrtle had lived in this area for the past 19 years, moving here from Kansas. She was a housewife and homemaker. Dr. Dennis Clark will officiate. Joe Dee was born Jan. 31, 1915 in Lamesa, Texas. He died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001 at Conroe, Texas. Joe Jeter, Daddy, performed many roles in life, all with distinction and love, IE: Son, Brother, Husband, Father and Grandfather. All he touched in these roles leave a living legacy in the way we conduct our lives. He is, most certainly, in the loving arms of our Father today and protected by grace. He married Clara Kellogg. They were married 54 years. She preceded him in death Oct. 29, 1988. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Burial was in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, of Guthrie. Sylvia was born Jan. 3, 1912 at McFall, Mo., to Harvey Newton and Florence Irene (Thrasher) Goble. She died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie. Betty moved to the Coyle and Guthrie area at the age of six, moving here from Missouri. She was employed at Tinker Field during the war and later for the Keep-U-Neat Cleaners in Guthrie. She also worked in the school lunch room at Coyle for many years. Betty enjoyed being with her family and she enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and especially enjoyed fishing when her health permitted. She married Clinton Woodard on Aug. 10, 1929, in Guthrie. He preceded her in death in July of 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Woodard in July 1998; two brothers; and one sister. Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) Seals, Arkansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; one sister, Luella Thomas, of Guthrie; and a number of nieces and nephews and friends. Published - Wednesday, January 17, 2001 Wendell Keith Waite Wendell Keith Waite, born Dec. 6, 1916 to Fred E. and Hazel Keith Waite in Burbank, Okla., died at home Jan. 15, 2001, after a short illness. Wendell grew up in Mulhall, Okla., and graduated from Central State College in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army at Letterman's Hospital and in the Philippines during World War II. He married Winifred Robe in 1947 and they raised four children in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was retired from the New Mexico State Corporation Commission where he served as Director of Motor Transportation. He was a long time member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Santa Fe and Montezuma Masonic Lodge. Wendell excelled at tennis, both as a player and coach, and equally loved the game of golf. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Winifred. She attended Oklahoma A&M University, graduating in 1945, where she met her future husband, Delbert Ralph Goggin of Wellston. They married on August 15, 1942 at the First Methodist Church in Stillwater. Reatha taught school in Crescent from 1946 to 1950 and in Enid from 1962 to 1985, at which time she retired. As a kindergarten teacher, she was named "Teacher of the Year" in 1977. Reatha was a member of the First United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years. She also was a member of Beta Sigma Phi social sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution, OSU Alumni Association, Delta Kappa Gamma teachers' sorority and the Enid YWCA. She is survived by her husband, Delbert; son Terry Goggin, daughter-in-law Sylvia Busby Goggin and grandsons Winchester and Daniel, all of Dunwoody, Ga.; two daughters, Mary Woods of Plano, Texas and Kay Goggin of Dallas; a brother, Dwight Winchester of Bozeman, Mon.; many nieces and nephews; and two goddaughters, Mary Lentz of Enid and Reatha Marlatt of Ames. She attended Langston Public Schools. Loraine was employed by Langston University where she retired in 1979. She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Guthrie, Okla. Loraine Jackson and Robert "Bob" Sullivan were united in marriage on July 11, 1939. Loraine, who was better known to family and friends as "Bay," was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She had a caring attitude and a loving heart towards anyone she came in contact with. Her hobbies included playing dominoes, cards, bingo and fishing. She departed this life on Jan. 15, 2001. Loraine was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, one brother, and one sister. Published - Tuesday, January 23, 2001 Lee Edwin Williams Lee Edwin Williams, 90, passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 21, 2001 with his loving wife of 72 1/2 years close by. Lee was born Oct. 8, 1910 in Rankin, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma to Ed H. and Lula (Garver) Williams. Lee was a farmer in the Camp Russell community for many years, and then a skilled carpenter until his retirement. He built their home in 1959 when they left the farm and moved in to Guthrie. Lee loved horses, even constructing life-sized concrete horses for his yard, which became a landmark on East Perkins Street. Lee was a committee member of the Logan County Council on Aging, a committee to aid the Logan County Aging Services. He also served as president of this committee at different times. He served a number of years as a volunteer at Highland Hall's senior nutrition site. Lee was a 32nd degree Mason, being a member of Masonic Lodge No. 35; Eastern Star Chapter No. 12; and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church. A devoted father of three children, Lee is survived by his wife, Sophia, and children, Lela James of Oklahoma City; Dwayne Jerry Williams of Edmond, and Geraldine (Jerry) Sander of Idaho Springs, Colorado. He is survived by his sisters and brothers, May Gillispie of Medford, Oregon; Ina Cole of Oklahoma City; Goldie Parks of Mannford, Okla.;Zella Biggs of Guthrie; Vernon Williams of Guthrie; and Clarence (Jack) Williams of Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, two sisters, one grandson, one great-grandson, one daughter-in-law, and one granddaughter-in-law. Bill graduated from Guthrie High School in 1961 and received a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Oklahoma in 1967. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1973 and earned an M.S. in Management from the University of Arkansas in 1973. Bill returned to Guthrie in 1979 as owner of the Ben Franklin Store and was later employed as Director of Support Services for Guthrie Job Corps in 1984. Merrell served as city councilman from 1981 to 1983 and as mayor from 1983 to 1985. He later worked as Director of Fiscal Services for the Oklahoma State Dept. of Education. At the time of his death, Bill was director of Business and Finance for the Nye County School District in Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents. She preceded him in death December 2, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include two daughters, Dana Joyce Gilbert of Oklahoma City and Retha Pitchford of Crescent; three sons, Jerry Lee Pitchford, Larry Jackson Pitchford and Roy Dean Pitchford, all of Crescent; two stepsons, Richard Allen Gross andLeonard Bryan Gross, both of Crescent; one brother, Clifford Pitchford and wife, Reta, of Tulsa; one sister, Ruth Jackson of Tahlequah; one sister-in-law, Doris Pitchford of Tulsa; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Copyright 1999-2001 The Guthrie News Leader
