Mrs. John Janes Nelson (Nancy Elizabeth Tibbetts Nelson), 78, Guthrie '89er and mother of Fire Chief Ed Nelson, died Tuesday night in the Cimarron Valley Wesley hospital here following a brief illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral home. Rev. O .P. Blackwell, pastor of the West Side Methodist church, will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Floyd Bennett, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church here. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery near Navina. Pallbearers will include Walker Peebles, Lige Thompson, Ward Barnhum, Grover Feary, Charles Kieson and City Manager, Loyd Jay. Mrs. Nelson was born near Bradysville, Iowa, March 31, 1865. She was married in 1883 at Salem, Neb., and with her husband made the traditional run into Oklahoma, when it was opened to settlement April 22, 1889. They homesteaded in what is now Guthrie and had lived here until death. She has been active in church work and had been a member of the West Side Methodist church since 1889. Survivors include six sons, Thomas A. Nelson, Mount Wilson, Calif.; Ed Nelson, Guthrie; William Dennis (Nelson), Denver, Col.; Joe C. Nelson, Topeka, Kans.; C. D. Nelson, Guthrie, and Hiram Nelson, Norman; four daughters, Mrs. J. L. (Florence (Bonnie)) Griswold, Arkansas City, Kans.; Mrs. Marie (Mrs. Wilbur) Johnson, Oklahoma City; Mrs. R. L. (Robert L.(Nancy Evalena Nelson)) Kessler, Norfolk, Va., and Mrs. E. J. (Edward(Ruth Eloise Nelson)) Laurent, Cody, Wyo.; two sister, Mrs F. M. (Flora Marie Tibbetts Willis or Mary Flora Tibbetts) Kightlinger, Guthrie, and Mrs. Cora (Cora Ellen Tibbetts) Allen, Oklahoma City, and one brother, E. C. (Efford C.) Tibbetts, Denver, Col.
