"Speedy" Weems Funeral services for James W. "Speedy" Weems, 72, of Guthrie, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie officiated by Rev. Terry Martindale. Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Guthrie. Speedy was born Nov. 14, 1926 in Idabel to Thomas Henry and Edith E. (Callaway) Weems. He died Aug. 18, 1999 at Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Guthrie. Speedy moved to Guthrie from Idabel at the age of seven. He was the owner/operator of Carey Printing for many years, just recently retiring. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving in World War II. Speedy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 35 since 1953 and a member of Scottish Rite and KCCH. He also was a former DeMolay advisor serving 28 years and was a member of India Temple Shrine of Oklahoma City. He served 11 years in Guthrie city government as a council member and mayor. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post No. 58 and the Logan County Historical Society. Speedy was preceded in death by his parents. He is sruvived by one son, Jerry Weems and wife Deborah; one sister, Joyce Ellis; four brothers, Billy Weems, Martin Weems and wife Helen; Bobby Weems and Leland Weems and wife Betty; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.
