She was the first child of three (3) born to this union. After spending the first four weeks of her life in God's beautiful world in Lawton, her parents brought her to Oklahoma City where she was reared and nurtured as a child. She was a graduate of Douglas High School, Langston University and the Oklahoma School of Religion. She began work toward a Masters degree at what is now called the University of Central Oklahoma. She excelled in almost every task she undertook. She taught in the Guthrie and Oklahoma City School systems for 24 years. She retired from teaching in 1985. On June 26, 1943 in Houston, Texas, Charlie Mae married the love of her life, Eddie Arnesta Ward. They were a perfect match. They were truly a couple and a happy family. Where you saw one, you soon saw the other. They worked together hand in hand. In 1954, they began pastoral leadership at Macedonia Baptist Church in Guthrie, OK. Charlie Mae served beside her husband as Pastor until his retirement in 1994. She continued to attend there until his death in 1995. She served in many religious capacities over the years in the East Zion District Association of Churches. She was President of the State Young Matrons, National Secretary of Young Matrons Inc., U.S.A., and in 1970 was elected by the State Women of Oklahoma to lead them for four years. Many persons in the East Zion District would say that Charlie Mae made a positive difference wherever she went and in what ever she was involved. She had the trip of her lifetime when she visited the Holy Land in 1998. She often spoke of what a spiritual experience this was. She leaves to cherish her memory a sister-in-law, Nadine; a most caring and helpful niece Kathleen; two devoted spiritual daughters, Norma Jefferson Goff of Oklahoma City and Nancy Chandler Turner of Mesquite, Texas; also, a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Fri., Feb. 14, 2003 at St. John Baptist Church, 5700 N. Kelley. Published in the Oklahoman on 2/14/2003. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Logan County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/logan/logan.html
