AARON PICKENS is a single stone located on the Thurman Vinson homeplace in Enville, OK. It is an abandoned cemetery and they say that at one time there were at least 25 graves in this one. Thurman said he heard that Aaron was killed by a black man over a card game. The cemetery is located in 3E, 6S, Section 22. Difficult to find. 02. ARK is a black cemetery, abandoned and extremely hard to find. Many unmarked graves and ones with only field stones. The cemetery is located in 2E, 7S, Section 1. 03. ARNOLDVILLE is another abandoned cemetery and very overgrown with thick trees and underbrush. At one time, in the 1880's, Arnoldville was a good size community, but closed its post office in 1889 and disappeared. The cemetery is large and in terrible condition. The cemetery is located in 1E, 7S, Section 35. It is just northeast of the airplane runway of McGehee's restaurant. 04. BELLEVILLE-BOURLAND is the cemetery for the community of Belleville. The cemetery is located in 3W, 7S, Section 29. 05. BURNEY-GAINES is another abandoned cemetery. It is a half mile east of the present Burneyville cemetery and sits atop a hill just south of the Noble Foundation road. Many of the people who first settled in this area are buried here. The cemetery is located in 1W, 7S, Section 35. 06. BURNEYVILLE is the cemetery for the city of Burneyville. The cemetery is located in 1W, 7S, Section 34. 07. COYLE-PIKE is a little pirvate cemetery a mile and 1/2 northwest of the old Pike schoolhouse. The post office of Pike was closed in 1933. The cemetery is well taken of with a 2" pipe around it to keep the cattle out. The cemetery is located in 1W, 7S, Section 6. 08. CROW is in the northwest part of the county. Have no idea where the name came from as there is no one buried here by that name and no community near by that name. It is located in 3W, 6S, Sect. 28. **See additional note at bottom of cemetery listing. 09. DIBRELL is a cemetery south of Leon about two miles. From a previous survey it is said that the Dibrell cemetery was started beford the Civil War by Ike Cloud. It is located just west of the Cloud Trail near where the trail crossed th Red River. Ike was killed during the Civil War and his wife died a short time later. After their deaths, the Cloud Ranch was taken over by Mrs. Cloud's brothers, Jim Bill and Joe Dibrell. The cemetery that Ike Cloud started then became known as the Dibrell Cemetery. They say that at one time there were at least a 100 graves in this cemetery, now it is almost completely gone. It is located in 2W, 8S, Section 19. 10. BROWN SPRINGS OR DRIPPING SPRINGS OR REFUGE SPRINGS is an abandoned cemetery located on a hill in the southern part of Love County just north of the Red River. Old timers say that this cemetery was started by outlaws who liked the area because of advantage of high ground. This was a refuge from the Texas Rangers and was also in Indian Territory. They say several outlaws are buried here. It is very run down and many of the stones have disappeared. It is located in 2E, 9S, Section 31. 11. DUNBAR is a black cemetery 2 miles north of Burneyville on Hwy 32. It is located in 1W, 7S, Section 23. 12. EASTMAN is a small cemetery for the community of Eastman. It is located in 1W, 6S, Section 35. 13. ENVILLE PLEASANT OAK is a small cemetery for the Enville community area. It is located in 3E, 7S, Section 3. 14. ANGLIN OR FALCONHEAD is a small inactive cemetery on the Falconhead Resort property. Before the developers bought the property it was on private land and the cemetery was called Anglin, named after some of the people buried there. It is located in 1W, 7S, Section 21. 15. GORDON is an abandoned cemetery on private property owned by the Noble Foundation. It is about a 1/2 mile directly west of the Acox Ranch and one has to walk to reach the cemetery. It is located in 1E, 6S, Section 17. 16. GRAVEYARD BLUFF is a cemetery on an island in Lake Texoma. It is abandoned and in poor condition. This is the cemetery where Edmund Pickens is supposed to be buried, the man that Pickens County is named after. The cemetery is only accessible by boat. It is located in 3E, 7S, Section 10. 17. GREENVILLE is the cemetery for the community of the Greenville area. It is located in 2E, 6S, Section 20. 18. EDWARDS is an abandoned cemetery on the east side of Scenic Hwy 77S and difficult to see from the Hwy. There are only two stones in the cemetery. It is located in 2E, 6S, Section 22. 19. JIMTOWN is the cemetery for the communtiy of Jimtown. It is located in 3W, 8S, Section 13. 20. LAKEVIEW is the cemetery for the city of Marietta and is the largest cemetery in Love County. It is located in 2E, 7S, Section 22. 21. LEGATE is on Legate road in the far northeast part of Love County. It is located in 3E, 6S, Section 5. 22. LEON is the cemetery for the community of Leon. There is a story about how this cemetery was first started. A man by the name of P. B. Arthur came upon a wagon, a man a short distance from it was digging a hole. Not knowing what was happening, Mr. Arthur hid behind a tree and watched. When it became clear that the man was digging a grave, he came out and helped him. The family was passing through the country, when the man's wife died and he had stopped to bury her. This was in 1883 and her name was Rachel Brumley. It is located in 2W, 8S, Section 5. 23. LOVE is an abandoned cemetery on the banks of the Red River. It is very overgrown and very difficult to find. Many of the people of the Love family, of which this County is named after, are buried here; including Judge Overton Love known as Sobe Love. It is located in 3E, 8S, Section 9. 24. DECHERDS OR MAHOTA OR ADDINGTON BEND was at one time a very large cemetery. It also is an abandoned cemetery on private property and difficult to move about because of the undergrowth. It is located in 2E, 8S, Section 27. 25. MORGAN REST is a small family cemetery on private property. It is very well kept and is located in 2W, 6S, Section 11. 26. LOVE (OIL SPRINGS) is a small abandoned cemetery in the Hickory Creek Wildlife Management Area. It is just on the south side of Love Cemetery road in 2E, 6S, Section 35. 27. OLD JIMTOWN was the original cemetery for Jimtown and was located on a bluff that began to erode. The citizens then moved the cemetery to its present location in about 1915. There are still two stones in the old cemetery and probably many others not marked. It is 1/2 mile north of the present Jimtown cemetery. It is located in 2W, 8S, Section 12. 28. OLD THACKERVILLE is another large abandoned cemetery and is on private property. It was started back in the 1870's, and is one of the oldest cemeteries in Love County. Thackerville was one of the stations where the cattle and drivers from the Old Chisum Trail stopped over to rest. Many of the Thackers that the town was named after are buried here. It is located in 1E, 8S, Section 23. 29. ORR is the cemetery for the community of Orr. It is located in 3W, 6S, on Section lines 8 and 17. 30. OSWALT is the cemetery for the community of Oswalt. The post office closed in 1949, but the cemetery is still well taken care of. It is located in 1W, 6S, Section 18. 31. BURCH is a lone tombstone on the property of the Colston family. No one has any idea where the marker should be placed, but it was found on his property and one can assume that it belongs in that immediate area. It was sitting on the front porch when I visited the area. It is located in 2E, 7 S, Section 19. 32. PARKER is a small family cemetery on private property. It is located in 1W, 7S, Section 24. 33. TOWNSEND cemetery only so named because it is on the Towsend property. Why this cemetery is here is unknown. It is possibly an area used by Burneyville at one time. It is abandoned and overgrown and difficult to find, and is sitting on the bank of a creek. It is 3/4 of a mile directly east of the Townsend home site. It is located in 1W, 7S, Section 35. 34. PIKE is another little abandoned cemetery. It is 9/10 of a mile south of the old Pike School and 300 yards east sitting on top of a little hill. Very overgrown and difficult to find as all of the stones are down. It is located in 1W, 7S, Section 17. 35. MCBRIDE is a lone grave on top of a little hill on the old McBride farm. It is surrounded by an iron pipe fence and the owner of the property takes care of the grave. It is located in 1W, 7S, Section 31. 36. RAN has been on record as a cemetery since 1913. The cemetery is in the northeast part of the county. It has not been abandoned but needs a lot of work to clear out the underbrush. It is located in 3E, 6S, Section 20. 37. PRAIRIE VIEW is a black cemetery used by and taken care of by the city of Marietta. It is just south of the Lakeview cemetery. It is located in 2E, 7S, Section 32. 38. REID-CROSS is a cemetery just 200 yards south of the Love cemetery at Oil Springs. Why these cemeteries were not combined is anybodys guess. Both the Reid people and the Cross people in this cemetery are enclosed in two separate areas. It is located in 2E, 6S, Section 35. 39. RUBOTTOM is the cemetery for the city of Rubottom and is in the western part of the county. It is located in 3W, 7 S, Section 24. 40. SIMON is a fairly large cemetery used by the area around the community of Simon. It is located in 2W, 6S, Section 22. 41. WRIGHT cemetery has two stones right on the fence line next to the road just north of Old Enville. At one time these stones were in the pasture about 50 feet from the fence, but someone moved them up against the fence. It is located in 3E, 6S, Section 28. 42. MT ZION is the cemetery for the city of Thackerville. It is located in 1E, 9S, Section 3. 43. COURTNEY is an abandoned cemetery that was once used by the people of the community around Courtney. It is located in 7S, 3W, Section 23. 44. NEW HOPE is a new cemetery that belongs to the New Hope Baptist Church. It is located in 2E, 8S, Section 31. 45. VERNON is a new cemetery that is on the private property of the Vernon family. It is located in 2 W, 6S, Section 23. 46. MONTGOMERY is a small cemetery on private property of the Montgomery family. It is located in 1 W, 6S, Section 35, just north of the Eastman Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Additional information for 08. CROW Cemetery: Martha Ann Elizabeth (Polk) Harvick is buried in Crow Cemetery. She died about 1910. One of her daughters was, Rosa Jane Crow, wife of Granville Leonard Crow. So its possible the cemetery was named for that particular Crow family. Martha Harvick died in Dillard, OK, her body was brought to Crow Cemetry for burial. Martha was my great-grandmother.
