It is very overgrown with trees and vines, some tombstones are broken and/or unreadable. The town was named after Zachariah T. Thacker, as legend goes. The original location was near Wolf Hollow Creek, Indian Territory, less than a half mile from the Red River, which separates Oklahoma from Texas. The Thacker family, including Zachariah and some of his brothers ran a corn mill, a ferry and a general store. There was also a hotel run by the Harper family, as well as other businesses. In 1887 the unincorporated town moved to its present location to be near the Santa Fe Railroad, where it later became incorporated in 1899. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last Name First and Middle Name Birth Date Death Date Inscriptions ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alldridge C. Epitaphs: Gussie Splawn - Our darling one has gone before, to greet us on the other shore. Arthur O. Thacker - Suffer little children to come unto me, for such is the kingdom of Heaven. Stella Thacker - Weep not, she is at rest. Matilda Thacker - And though my skin worms do stay this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God. Walter Thacker - Though thou art gone, memory still clings to thee. Clarence L. Harris - Our darling one has gone before, to greet us on the other shore. Infant Holland - Weep not, he is at rest. Nellie E. Pate - In my fathers house are many mansions. Obadiah Epps - He has gone to the mansions of rest. Walter Jackson - Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid thee not. Cyrus P. Stewart - Our little boy sleeps sweetly here. John E. Harrell - Sleep darling, sleep. Thou toils are o'er. Sweet be thy rest so oft needed before. Well have I loved thee, but God loved thee more. He called thee away, to accompany me no more. Sanders Jefferson Thacker (S. J.) and his wife Mary Ann Linville, parents of Zachariah, are buried in this cemetery, as is one of their daughters, Arizona. Four of their sons have wives and/or children buried there, including Zachariah T., John R., Winfield S. and James M.. I suspect Lydia F. Thacker to have been a wife of another son, but I do not know which one. Her tombstone looks too new to be over one hundred years old.
