The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ *********************************************************************** Obit for Arthur Edgar Brown Services for Arthur "Aus" Edgar Brown, 97, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 3, at Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill, with Frank Pennington officiating. Mr. Brown was born May 19, 1904, in McMillan, Indian Territory, the son of James Andrew and Annie Melvinie Collins Brown. He died Thursday, August 30, 2001, at the Ardmore hospital. Mr. Brown was reared in Love County until 1924 when he moved and lived in Marshall and Johnston counties. He and Annie Laura Goff were married November 16, 1929, at Kingston, and she preceded him in death July 21, 1986. In 1955 the couple moved to Madill where they lived the rest of their lives. Mr. Brown worked as a farmer and a truck driver; as a pipeliner for a number of years; and for the city of Madill and Marshall County District 2. He retired around the age of 85. Mr. Brown mowed yards for the elderly and widowed and was a self-taught and very renowned fiddler. He won many trophies and awards throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. Mr. Brown was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Vickie Brown of Madill and Eddie and Debbie Brown of Atoka; five daughters and sons-in-law, Neva Lafon and Emit Clark of Madill, Mona Jo and Jack Cumbie of Russett, Glynda Jane and Ferrell Herndon of Durant, Susan Kaye and Jackie Pilgrim of Ardmore and Nancy Lou and Doug Kirk of Plainview; 17 grandchildren; 26 great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Gregory of Pampa, Texas; a brother, Vernon Brown of Spring Lake, Michigan; a sister-in- law, Aline Brown of Ardmore; several Goff family in-laws; special persons that cared for him, Jaynie Gores, Lila Carter and Kathleen Grider; and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Brown was also preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Bobby Dale Clark; and a great-granddaughter, Emerald Vega. Serving as pallbearers were Randy Cumbie, Dennis Cumbie, Jackie Don Cumbie, Mitchell Pilgrim, Todd Brown, Teeleih Bond, Grant Brown and Jeremy Cumbie. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Greg Martens, Dr. John Sills, Donald Joe Adams, John H. Jones, Otis Wilson, Milford Clement, Ed Benton, Marcello Cavallo, Dwight Birdsong, Thomas Pittman, John Grider, Ivan Loyd and Bryant Watts. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dickson Senior Citizen Center, Rt. 1, Ardmore, OK 73401.
