                     Obit for Elva Holt Howard

Services for Elva Holt Howard, 89, of Overbrook, were held at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, October 25, in the Harvey-Douglas Chapel, Ardmore, with Mr. Wayne
Merritt officiating.

Mrs. Howard was born August 8, 1911, in Bennington, the daughter of Edgar E.
and Rosetta Snell Holt. She died Monday, October 23, 2000, in a local nursing
facility.

A lifelong resident of the area, Mrs. Howard graduated from the Greenville
School. She and Earl Gilmore Howard were married February 5, 1931, in Ardmore.
He preceded her in death May 20, 1988. Mrs. Howard was a member of the Carter
Avenue Methodist Church, which is now the Asbury Methodist Church. She was a
homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Rose Earl Geihsler of McCook, Nebraska; one
sister, Julia Hickman of Greenville; three grandchildren; eight great-
grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Edgar E. and Rosetta Snell Holt.

Serving as pallbearers were Jack Testerman, Ron Mitchell, Dale Holt, Michael
Hill, Clinton Holt and Thomas H. Whitmore. Honorary pallbearers were Redus
Gaither, Leonard Rice, David Nichols, Arvil Holt, Bobby Ellis and W.C.
Mitchell.

Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of
Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home, Ardmore.
