"Red" Hughes, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Garrett officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 2:30 p.m. in Quitaque Cemetery in Quitaque. Mr. Hughes was born in Love County, Okla., and moved to Lubbock in 1972 from Matador. He was a farmer and a retired oil field worker. During World War II, he served with the Army. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2466 in Lubbock. His son, Danny Lee Hughes, died in 1956. Survivors include a son, John W. Hughes of Phoenix; three daughters, Patsy Sue Hughes of Sacramento, Calif., and Linda Jean Hughes and Kathy Marie Sharrah, both of Lubbock; a brother, Don "Butch" Hughes of Flomot; two sisters, Thelma Pierce of New Deal and Jean Cooper of Matador; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
