Mr. Harl was born September 6, 1915, in Atoka. He died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in an Oklahoma City hospital. He graduated from Wilburton High School in 1933 and received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in agriculture and rural adult education from Oklahoma State University in 1938 and 1966. He and Adene Carter of Sayre were married in Clinton in 1939 and she preceded him in death in 1974. Mr. Harl spent 28 years as County Extension Director in Love, Cotton, Cherokee and Blaine counties before retiring in 1971 in Watonga. He served at Marietta from 1942 to 1946. He received national honors for his work. Mr. Harl continued living in Watonga until 1987, when he moved back to Marietta, his first extension post. He lived here until he moved to Yukon. For the past three years he had been living in a Yukon retirement center. Mr. Harl organized Marietta's FFA chapter and supported a strong livestock program here. He also was a member of various civic groups over the years and was involved with many civic projects and Boy Scouts of America. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Harl Green of Williamsburg, Virginia; a son, Gary Harl of Weatherford; a sister, Odessa Clark of El Monte, California; and four grandchildren. Interment was in the Watonga IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Russworm Funeral Home. Printed in the Marietta Monitor - March 23, 2001, page 4
