Murray McMurray officiating. Mr. Sampson was born January 19, 1936, in Thackerville, the son of George and Mildred Scivally Sampson. He died Thursday, November 22, 2001, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Survivors include four sons, Donald Sampson of Rock Wall, Texas, Charles Winstead of Fort Worth, Texas, James P. Sampson Jr. of Tulsa and Joey Winstead of Gainesville, Texas; four daughters, Debra K. Placher of Poteau, Sharon Roof of Fort Worth, and Karen Daughty and Wendy Howard of Thackerville; two brothers, V.J. Sampson and Virgel Sampson of Thackerville; five sisters, Murlene Sanders of Poteau, Glenda Sisson and Elaine Midgley of Wister, Sharon Migces of Thackerville and Violet Gowdy of Amarillo, Texas; 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Mr. Sampson was preceded in death by his parents. Interment was at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thackerville, under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home, Poteau.
