Longest Services for Lorene A. Longest, 72, of Courtney, were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, August 30, at the First Baptist Church in Ringling, with the Rev. Dan Standifer and the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Mrs. Longest was born July 14, 1929, at McMann in Carter County, the daughter of Harry Cecil and Zora Lee Dodson Savage. She died Tuesday, August 28, 2001, in an Oklahoma City hospital. Raised at Courtney, Mrs. Longest graduated from Courtney High School. She lived all her life in the Ringling and Courtney communities and was an avid Ringling Blue Devils fan. Mrs. Longest was a longtime member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Ringling and a member of the Petersburg Home Extension Club. She and R.T. Longest Jr. were married May 28, 1949, in Gainesville, Texas. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, R.T. of the home; a son, Steve Longest of Courtney; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Rick Gandy of Zaneis; three grandsons, Richie Gandy, Tracy and wife Jana Gandy, and Brody Longest; a granddaughter, Tegan Longest; two great-granddaughters, Sierra Gandy and Kaylee Gandy; a brother, Coy Savage of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Longest was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Geraldine Savage, Laverne Walker and Pauline Howard; and four brothers, Jack, Lee, Dearl and Earl Dewayne Savage. Pallbearers were Lindsay Southward, Robin Longest, Kenneth Longest, Tommy Throckmorton, Bill Finke and Harvey Grant. Honorary pallbearers were Tankie Spivey, Bob Chapman, Cotton Grant and Gene Jackson. Interment was in Belleville-Bourland Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Ringling.
