Mrs. Shobe was born February 17, 1916, at Marietta and died November 22, 1999, in the Pecan Tree Manor, Gainesville. She was the daughter of Robert and Alma Stansbury Billingsley. A resident of Gainesville since 1947, Mrs. Shobe was a member of the Commerce Street Church of Christ where she taught the Ladies Bible Class for more than 40 years. She was a Life Member of the P.T.A. in Gainesville and also active in Girl Scout and Boy Scout activities. Mrs. Shobe was active in the Garden Study Club and was a National Flower Show Judge. She was a member of the Luncheon Book Club, the Francis Lightfoot Lee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Order of the Eastern Star, served on the local board of the American Heart Association, was active in the Democratic Party in Cooke County and served as an Election Judge. Mrs. Shobe was employed as a secretary to the Gainesville State School psychiatrist and psychologist, retiring in 1982. She and Paul J. Shobe were married in Gainesville on October 11, 1936. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Shobe Westbrook of Richmond, Texas; two sons and daughter-in-law, John Richard and Jan Shobe of Colleyville, Texas, and Stephen Ray Shobe of Groves, Texas; a sister, Katherine Walker of Gainesville; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Shobe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul J. Shobe on April 11, 1981; and five brothers. Services were directed by Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville, with interment in Lakeview Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. Source: Marietta Monitor, Love County, November 26, 1999.
