Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville, with the Rev. Garry Way, pastor of Fair Avenue Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Russell was born November 24, 1958, in Gainesville, the son of Allen Russell and Jeanie King. He died Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at his residence in Gainesville. A 1977 graduate of Roswell High School in Roswell, New Mexico, Mr. Russell worked as a baker all of his adult life. He was a former resident of Arlington and Sherman, Texas. Survivors include a brother, Thomas Reed of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Judy Reed of Gainesville, Vickie Renick of Marietta and Theresa Biggs of Gainesville; a number of other siblings, Janie Russell of Oklahoma, Barbara Harris of Burneyville, Nelda Wood of Kalasknine, Oregon, Ray Russell of Thackerville, Larry Russell of Claremore, Allen Russell of Marietta, and Johnnie Raulston of Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jimmy McGuairt and Teddy Russell. Interment was in the New Hope Cemetery, on Saturday, August 17, under the direction of George J. "PETE" MARTINDALE Services for L.C. "Pete" Martindale, 65, of Oklahoma City, will be held at 10 a.m. today (Friday), August 23, at South Colonial Chapel in Oklahoma City. Mr. Martindale was born August 26, 1936, at Oswalt, and died Monday, August 19, 2002. He was employed as a mechanic of the City of Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife, Verna of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry Martindale and Mark and Sandy Martindale of Oklahoma City; a daughter and son-in-law, Laquita and Charles Rudlang of Shawnee; three brothers and sisters- in-law, Victor and Sandy Martindale of Amarillo, Texas, Val and Kitty Dean of Caddo, and Owen and Alexis Dean of Jones; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Lou and James Dennis of Amarillo, Inez and Jim Odell of Amarillo, Faye and Bill Patton of Marietta, Nita and Jerry Johnson of Amarillo, and Judy Martindale of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Martindale was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Girtrude Dean, Raye Fowler, and Carlene Martindale; and a brother, Nolan Dean. Mrs. Taylor was born August 31, 1916, in Love County, the daughter of R.O. and Mable Stubbs, and died October 13, 1999, in Oklahoma City. She married Carl Taylor May 20, 1933, in Marietta. The couple moved to Oklahoma City in 1934 where she was employed several years by Continental Oil Company. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Williams of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Polly Bell of Thackerville and Rita Cullum of Overbrook; a brother, Omer Stubbs of El Reno; three grand- daughters and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband in 1997. Services were directed by Bransetter-Rosewood Funeral Home. David Brantley officiating. Born December 28, 1915, at Courtney, Mr. Thomas died October 19, 1999, in the River Valley Health and Rehab. He was the son of Edgar and Marie Singleton Thomas. Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Fleet over 30 years, last serving on the U.S.S. Tirante. He served in Korea and traveled throughout the world. Mr. Thomas was Past Master of Masonic Lodge #753 in Nocona, Texas, and a member of the Courtney Methodist Church. He and Virginia Lee May were married on April 8, 1944. Mr. Thomas married his second wife, the former Irene Prutt, on March 27, 1994. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Irene Thomas of Gainesville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Frank and Kathy Thomas of Ootelwah, Tennessee, and Datis E. and Debbie E. Thomas of Gainesville; three daughters, Gayla McKee of Gainesville, Jody Gipson of Norman and Delo Shehan of Fort Towson; two brothers, Lloyd Thomas of Mountain View, California, and Joe Thomas of Merced, California; two sisters, Ruth Newsom of Napa, California, and Sue Luoto of Santa Rosa, California; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia Lee Thomas, on October 28, 1987; two brothers, Bill Thomas and Jack Thomas; and two sisters, Marianne Martin and Sybil Thomas. Interment with full military honors will be in the Bourland-Belleville Cemetery under the direction of Clement-Keel Funeral Home, Gainesville. Family members will serve as casket bearers. Casey Campbell, minister, officiating. Mrs. Holder was born February 23, 1933, in Wellington, Texas, and died September 24, 1999, in the Gainesville Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of Johnny and Annie Kelley Arrington. Mrs. Holder worked for Weber Aircraft and had been a cosmetologist for over 17 years. She and Eugene Holder were married May 19, 1957, in Gainesville. Mrs. Holder was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Gainesville. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Holder of Thackerville; two sons, Michael Eugene Holder, also of Thackerville, and Jerry Beard of Seattle, Washington; two daughters, Linda Die of Eugene, Oregon, and Brenda Durpe of Reno, Nevada; six brothers, Leon Arrington, Bobby Arrington, Randal Arrington, Don Snider and Jimmy Arrington, all of Gainesville, and James Hamontree of Maryland; three sisters, Dorothy Schneider of paonla, California, Juanita Duran of California, and Joyce Tullio of Colorado; four grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. John Philip Sales, Sr. were Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Southgate Pentecostal Holiness Church in Moore. Born February 9, 1927, in Stratford, the son of Tom and Nellie Sales, Rev. Sales died September 25, 1999. Rev. Sales served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Prestolite after 35 years. He ministered in the Pentecostal Holiness Church until his retirement. Rev. Sales pastored at the Light House Evangelistic Ministries in Marietta for two years. He served as the pastor of Southgate Pentecostal Holiness Church in Moore from January 26, 1957 to July 31, 1995. An avid fisherman, Rev. Sales also enjoyed traveling. He and Elsie Eggar were married February 14, 1948, in Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Sales of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, John P. Sales, Jr. and Cathie of El Reno; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Michael Player of Boston, Massachusetts; a sister and brother-in-law, Tommy and Kenneth Nell of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Rev. Sales was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Sandra Andrews. Services were under the direction of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary, South Oklahoma City location. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAROLINA "BEBEE" BERSOSA BENAVIDES A prayer service for Carolina "Bebee" Bersosa Benavides, 40, was held Thursday, August 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories in Abilene, Texas, followed by a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 20, in St. Francis Catholic Church. Officiating was Rev. Juan Guerra. Born in Abilene, Mrs. Benavides died in an Abilene hospital August 18. She married Richard Benavides October 9, 1981, in Abilene, and moved to Marietta 12 years ago. Mrs. Benavides was a teacher's assistant in the Marietta Schools, working with the English as a second language (E.S.L.) program. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Marietta, a mission church of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ardmore. Survivors include her husband, Richard Benavides of Marietta; two sons, Jesse Acosta and Richard Lee Benavides, both of Marietta; a daughter, Amanda Benavides of Marietta; her mother, Luz Hernandez of Abilene; three brothers, Joe Hernandez, John Hernandez and Simon Hernandez, all of Abilene; two sisters, Candy Salazar of Houston, Texas, and Gloria Valdez of Abilene; a granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment ws in the Abilene City Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Homes. Funeral services for George King Washington, Jr., were held in the Memorial Chapel in the Arnold Moore Funeral Home in Bartlesville. Mr. Washington died July 23, 1999, in Bartlesville, at the age of 79 after a lengthy illness. He was born October 24, 1919, in Marietta, the son of the late George K. and Pearl Mitchell Washington. Mr. Washington was also the grandson of the late J.C. (Jerry) Washington, prominent rancher and benefactor who gave the land for the original townsite of Marietta. Mr. Washington graduated from Abilene High School, Abilene, Texas, and from the University of Oklahoma. He served in the United States Navy during World Warr II, 1941-1944. Mr. Washington and the former Betty Poggemeyer were married in 1944, and she preceded him in death in 1995. Mr. Washington was retired from Phillips Petroleum Company. Survivors include a son, George K. Washington III of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Terisa Baker and Mrs. Martha Lou Myers, also of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Ben (Martha) Smith of Vernon, Texas; and four grandchildren of Houston. Source: Marietta Monitor, Love County, OK, 27 Aug 1999, pg 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JERRY HERBERT BREHM Services for Jerry Herbert Brehm, 48, of Enid were Friday, August 20, at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Enid. Officiating was Dr. Richard Dunn. Mr. Brehm was born September 19, 1950, in Weatherford, the son of Herbert and Peoble (Amen) Brehm, and died August 17, 1999, at his home in Enid. Mr. Brehm and the former Sharla Inman were married August 21, 1970. After graduating from Southwestern State University in 1974 with a B.S. degree in Accounting, the Brehms moved to Marietta where he was Business Administrator for the Marietta Hospital. The couple later moved to Enid where he opened his own public accounting firm, Brehm & Raymond, and practiced there for the next 17 years. Mr. Brehm was a charter member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Enid and faithfully served as the Church Treasurer and Deacon since the church's founding in July 1998. He had previously served as Church Treasurer and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Enid. His life priorities were God, Family, Church and Friends. Mr. Brehm was currently serving as Chairman of the Affiliated Relations Committee of the National Society of Public Accountants, and he had previously served as Secretary /Treasurer for the Northwest Chapter of Public Accountants. He held several offices with the Oklahoma Society of Independent Public Accountants and was the 1994-95 Boss/Associate for the Red Carpet Chapter of American Business Women's Association. Mr. Brehm was named 1996 Accountant of the Year by ABWA. He was a member of the Enid A.M. Ambucs, Enid Jaycees, and the Enid Family YMCA. He was also on the Board for the Northwest Oklahoma Youth for Christ, an organization in Enid for boys and girls. Mr. Brehm was honored for his generous time and talent in coordinating the bringing of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall to Vance Air Force Base in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Sharla Brehm of Enid; two daughters, Heather and Shaunna Brehm, also of Enid; a son, Jonathan Brehm of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Blade and Alanna; his father, Herbert Brehm of Weatherford; and a sister, Carolyn Dibler of Weatherford. Mr. Brehm was preceded in death by his mother, Peoble Brehm. Graveside services were Friday, August 20, at 3:00 p.m. in the Hydro Masonic Cemetery, Hydro, under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford. Brannan of Falconhead were Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Falconhead Christian Fellowship Chapel with Dr. Glen Pool officiating. Born September 13, 1922, at Ardmore, Mrs. Brannan died August 23, 1999, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, at the age of 76. She was the daughter of Clarence and Waneta Larner Beindorf. A resident of Love County most of her life, she married William R. "Bill" Brannan on February 15, 1943. Mrs. Brannan was a housewife and an artist. She was a very active member of the Falconhead Ladies Golf Association and created their mascot. Mrs. Brannan was also editor of the Golf Book and the Tale Feathers newsletter. She did calligraphy for numerous signs and postcards and was founder of the Falconhead Memorial Garden. Designer of the theme posters for Love County's annual Frontier Days Celebration, she also helped create the Frontier Days flag. Mrs. Brannan assisted with the illustrations for The History of Love County, Volume 1. Mrs. Brannan was a former officer of the Oklahoma Cowbelles Association. She attended the Falconhead Christian Fellowship Chapel. Survivors include her husband, Bill Brannan of the home at Falconhead; two sons and daughter-in-law, Rick and Julie Brannan of Marietta, and Bruce Brannan of Austin, Texas; two brothers, Ray Beindorf of Bel Air, California, and Bill "Boots" Beindorf of Reynolds Plantation, Georgia; and four grandchildren, Marcia Pierce, Sara Brannan and Cathy Brannan of Marietta and Abby Brannan of Fort Worth, Texas. Mrs. Brannan was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Zack Brannan on March 3, 1999. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery was directed by Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jim Johnson, Wade Orsburn, Andy Anderson, Tim Garner, Charlie Durie and John Marshall. Honorary bearers included Dick Cochran, Willis Wheat, Bob Jones, Tom Stephens, Tom Wharton, Dick Banks and Hector Favreau.
