John Sconce and the Rev. Tony Caro officiating. Mrs. Powell was born February 20, 1908, at Addington Bend, the daughter of John and Martha C. Phillips Suggs. She died Thursday, June 29, 2000 at Lake Country Manor Nursing Home in Marietta. She had been a resident of Love County all of her life except for four years in Lamar County, Texas. She and V.C. "Bud" Powell were married on May 19, 1923 in Bells, Texas, and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1976. Mrs. Powell was employed as a cook at the Thackerville School for 30 years. In addition to cooking, she enjoyed flower gardening, helping other people and spending time with her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Thackerville. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Aubrey and Jean Powell of Escalon, California, Buddy and Niki Powell of Thackerville, and Nelson "Dude" and Eva Mae Powell of Marietta; six daughters and sons-in-law, Velma and Maurice Trivelpiece of Shady Dale, Ealeen and A.D. Jones and Claudine Monkres, all of Thackerville, Carolyn Spann of Carollton, Texas, and Joyce and Wayne Varner and Mary Ann and Lindon Faulkenberry, all of Marietta; one brother, Calvin Suggs of Gainesville, Texas; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Powell was also preceded in death by two brothers and sisters. Serving his pallbearers were Danny Jones, Steven Monkres, Robert Varner, Keith Powell, Randy Powell, Ethan Powell, Jonathan Powell, Tim Powell, Dale Faulkenberry and Patrick Knox.
