                             R.A. HARPER

Services for R.A. Harper, 79, of Marietta, were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May
12, at the First Christian Church in Marietta, with the Rev. Jim Enabnit
officiating.

Mr. Harper was born February 7, 1921, in Loves Valley, the son of Cliff and
Mary Hilton Harper.  He died Wednesday, May 10, 2000 in Mercy Health Love
County Hospital in Marietta.

He had lived in Love County all of his life.  He and Mary Nash were married
January 4, 1979, in Whitesboro, Texas.  Mr. Harper had owned and operated
Harper's Furniture & Appliance Store in Marietta over 20 years and in recent
years had operated an Appliance Repair Service.  As a Combat Infantryman in the
U.S. Army during World War II, Mr. Harper was awarded three Bronze Service
Stars in addition to the EAME Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the
American Service Ribbon.  He was a member of the American Legion.  Mr. Harper
was also a deacon in the First Christian Church of Marietta and an avid
fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Harper of the home; the mother of his
children, Sylvia Harper of Marietta; two daughters, Sharon Hall of Falconhead
and Vanesa Roberts of Marietta; one brother, Paul Harper of Oklahoma City; one
sister, Virgie Koch of Ardmore; four grandchildren, Josh Hall, Sara Roberts,
Kacie Roberts and Lora Roberts; and one great- grandchild, Peyton Roberts.

Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, Virgil
Harper, in 1920.

Serving as pallbearers were C.E. Treadwell, Vernon Griffin, Bill Ferguson,
Chuck Hite, Altus Gillaspy and Kenneth Gillaspy.  Honorary pallbearers were
John Yarbrough, Dr. Vergil Smith, and deacons and elders of First Christian
Church of Marietta.

Interment was held in the Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy
Funeral Home.
