She was born June 19, 1938, in Decatur, Texas, to Franklin Y. and Juanita (Stroud) Wilhite and was the eldest of six children. She lived in the local area for 51 years, coming from Gainseville, Texas, in 1956. Sue met her first husband, Lyle Stephenson, in 1955 while he was serving in the Air Force near her hometown of Gainesville. They were married Feb. 29, 1956, in Love County, Okla., and soon returned to Longview. They had three children. Sue was a bartender at the Midway Tavern during the 1970s. She and Lyle divorced in 1981. She moved to Kalama for several years and was a bartender at the Key Tavern. She loved to play pool and became quite good. She married Lloyd Dally on Valentine's Day in 1985. They divorced in 1992. She obtained her CNA license and worked at the Frontier Rehabilitation Nursing Home for several years. During this time, she became involved as a foster parent. Between then and 2004, when she became too ill, Sue was a foster mother for dozens of teenage girls. She remained close with several of her foster girls, including Yvonne Braacken. Sue had been at Evergreen Americana for the last eight months and had become very close with several of the aides, especially Amanda Burgess and Scott Slatzer. Sue was a very giving person who had a good sense of humor. She was also a great friend. Sue loved going to the beach. She loved the time when she rode a jet boat on the Rogue River. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was especially proud of her grandson, Michael Smith, who is serving a second tour of duty in Afghanistan. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she made it so wonderful for her children --- those times will never be forgotten. She was a truly beautiful person and will be missed by those whom she loved and who loved her. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Larry Snyder and Cathy and Eugene Smith; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Brenda Stephenson; a special young lady she raised as her daughter, Patricia Smith, all of Longview. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Michael Smith (wife Kristie), Kelli Snyder and Danielle and Gregory Stephenson. She also had two great-grandchildren, Austin and Aden Smith of Fort Gordon, Ga.; three brothers, Bill, Donnie and Steven Wilhite, all of Grand Prairie, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyle Stephenson; an infant son, Michael Dale; her parents; and two brothers. At her request, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hubbard Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Cowlitz County, P.O.
