All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *************************************************** Marietta Monitor – February 28, 1936 Pioneer Citizen Is Buried Here Thursday Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the family residence for Mrs. W. H. Thompson, Love County pioneer citizen, conducted by Rev. Raymond N. Ohman, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Death came to this 83-year-old pioneer woman at the family home at 8:00 o’clock, Wednesday morning, February 26, 1936. She was born May 30, 1853 and came to Love County when a young woman with her husband, the late W. H. Thompson, who was a prominent cattleman and rancher. They moved to what is now Love County from Callisburg, Texas. She had been a member of the local First Presbyterian Church for a number of years. Pallbearers at the funeral were Willie Prichard, Herman Prichard, Willie Stokes, Murrel Thompson, Samuel Carr, and William Beavers. Honorary pallbearers were: F. B. Conrad, M. W. Short, Carson Colley, D. L. Neal, W. B. Powell, Arch Robertson, D. L. Montgomery, Jack Dillard, Less Green, Tom Brannon, Hill Goodwin, E. G. McKinney, Erskine Armstrong, Jim Rose, J. Newt. Hilton, J. Woody Dixon, George Cowan, W. O. Hays, Will Riley, S. M. Forbes, W. H. Pittman, Ray B. Kelly, Fred H. Enas, G. B. Wand, and T. C. Couser. Burial was made in the Lake View cemetery with all arrangements under the direction of L. T. Burton. Those who survive are two daughters, Mrs. L. A. Stokes, of Stratford, and Mrs. Rena Prichard, and two sons, Claude Thompson and R. H. Thompson of this city, also fifteen grand-children including Virgil L. Stokes who had made his home with his grandmother for the past nineteen years. Also three sisters, Mrs. Callie Dowd, of St. Joe, Texas, Mrs. Frank Gatewood of Ardmore, and Mrs. Perry Maxey of Ada. Relatives who attended the funeral were: Mack Collums, Connersville, Mrs. Frank Gatewood, Ardmore; Mr. and Mrs. John Snodgrass of Ardmore; Mrs. Velma Richardson, of Oklahoma City; Mrs. L. A. Stokes of Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Carr of Claremore; Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Bevers, Ada; Nicie and Marvin Stokes of Ada; Sybil Stokes, of Ada; Mrs. Wick Adair of Ada; Mrs. J. C. Maxey, of Ada; Mrs. Jennie Collums, Frank Collums all of Dexter; Ed Dowd, Saint Joe, Texas. Ed Thompson, Ada; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Thompson, Stonewall; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Prichard, Oklahoma City, Herman Prichard, Stillwater; Juanita Peterman, Davis; Mrs. Frank Marshall and children of Whitesboro, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Collums, Dexter, Texas; and Dr. and Mrs. Wilson of Sherman, Texas. A host of friends of the family from all over this section were also here to attend the funeral. --------------------------------------
