Funeral rites for William A. Prichard were conducted from the Eastside Baptist Church Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. W. P. Rowland officiating. Assisting with the service were the Rev. Robert Griffin, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Atoka, and the Rev. Jim Banks, pastor of the Eastside Baptist Church. Mr. Prichard died February 4 in an Ardmore hospital following an illness of several months. He was born June 16, 1883 in Tennessee and came to Marietta in 1906. He had continued to make this his home since that time. Mr. Prichard was one of the early-day Marietta merchants, operating a grocery store and in later years, a hardware store. He retired from the hardware and furniture business in 1959. He was always actively concerned with the betterment of Marietta and Love County, giving of his time and services. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, serving as president for several terms; he had served as a member of the City Council and the Board of Education and was a retired Volunteer Fireman. At the time of his death he was serving as a member of the Marietta Water Board. Mr. Prichard was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Marietta, he was a former Sunday School superintendent of the Eastside Baptist Church, and was a Deacon in the Eastside Church at the time of his death. Mr. Prichard was a member of the Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge in which he was a Master Mason. He will be remembered and missed throughout this community. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Viola Prichard of Marietta; three sons, Bill Prichard of Marietta, Virgil Prichard, First U. S. Consul, Nogales, Mexico, and Herman Prichard of Phoenix, Arizona; one step-daughter, Mrs. Vanetta Merl Hill of Irving, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Ina Sanders of Dallas, Miss Zona Prichard of Fort Worth and Mrs. Mattie Smithee of Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery was under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home. Serving as casket bearer were Ralph Evans, E. C. Faulkenberry, W. E. Higgs, James Hill, George Porter and Dick Michael.
