May 30 to June 2, 1967: Accident on Country Road; Elderly Ames Man Dies Of Injuries After Crash Injuries sustained in the collision of two pickup trucks two miles north of Ames shortly after noon on Wednesday resulted in death for the 90 year-old driver of one vehicle, W.N. Goodale of Ames who died about 6:26 p.m. in St. Mary’s Hospital. Ned Ethen Wood, 62, Ames, driver of the other pickup, was treated in the emergency room of St. Mary’s for multiple lacerations, contusions and abrasions then released following treatment. According to a spokesman at St. Mary’s, Goodale, was in shock when admitted and sustained chest injuries, fractures and other injuries. Highway Patrol reports show the accident occurred about 1:15 p.m., two miles north of Ames on a county road. Goodale was going North and Wood traveling South, when the Goodale vehicle crossed left over the center line and the two pickups crashed head-on, according to Patrol reports. The accident was investigated by trooper G.W. Scruggs of the Fairview Patrol detachment. Funeral services for Goodale are pending at Henninger-Allen. A daughter, Mrs. Bessie Webber, lives in Enid.
