She was the daughter of Judge Isaac Overton Lewis and Rebecca Louise Jones. Her paternal grandparents were Elisra Love (daughter of Isaac Love and Eliza McKinney) and William L. Lewis. Her maternal grandparents were Jerry Jones, born in Illinois, and Alicia McKain, born in Bowie, Texas. Her mother’s father died before she was born and her grandmother and her own mother died after the childbirth of the youngest daughter Jennie, when Claudie Ella was about 4 years old. After her mother died her father placed she and her brother in the convent of St. Zavier’s academy, Denison, Texas, until he married in Miss Marry Yeargin. He then brought them home to Oakland. She and her brother were sent to the convent in Denison, because there were no public schools at that time. Later, the only schools were provided by hired private teachers who were paid $1.00 per head per month for each child who attended school.. She also attended Bloomfield Academy for young Indian ladies, before her marriage. She was very talented in music. Her brother Jack was killed in a hunting accident near Madill when he was only 17 years old, and at home during a vacation from Harley Institute. He was hunting with a friend when his gun accidentally discharged as he climbed through a fence. His friend managed to load him wounded and bleeding profusely into the buggy and rushed him to a doctor in Madill. He died from the loss of blood caused by the accident. He was a very handsome young man with dark black hair and freckles. He was buried in the old Oakland Cemetery beside his mother and her infant child. Their father Isaac Overton Lewis, who died on Christmas Eve many years later, was also buried in the family plot in Overton. Claudie Ella ‘s father was very fond of a young man who had just arrived in Oakland, Indian Territory, by the name of Joseph Patrick Reirdon. He had moved to Indian Territiory and was engaged in the harness and saddle business. He was also involved in the cattle business. He chose Joe for her to marry and in 1899 at the age of 15 years she and Joe were married in her fathers home in Oakland. Their children were: Thelma Overton Reirdon (1900- 1963) Rebecca Louise Reirdon (1903- 1989) Ethel Lorene Reirdon (1905-1968) Jack Joseph Reirdon (1907-1957) Mary Reirdon (1909-1973) The Final Rolls of Citizens and Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes in Indian Territory Lewis, Isaac Overton Age 46 Sex M Blood 1/16 Census Card No. 698 Reirdon, Claudie Ella 18 F 1/32 698 Reirdon, Joseph P 27 M IW 698 Reirdon, Thelma Overton 3 F 1/64 698 Reirdon, Rebecca Louise 2 F 1/64 109 Reirdon, Ethel Lorine 1 F 1/64 25 Reirdon, Jack Joseph Born after the rolls were closed Reirdon, Mary Born after the rolls were closed Claudie and Joe were divorced and Claudie married E.L.
