COWEN PASSES AT WILLIS HOME Services Today at Willis School for County Pioneer Funeral services were held this afternoon at Willis school building for Mrs. Amanda Cowen, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lynnie Fultz, Willis, Tuesday. She had been ill for some time. Mrs. Cowan [sic], wife of the late P.C. Cowan [sic], one of the most outstanding citizens of the Willis community, was mother of 15 children. She was born December 2, 1862, in [St. Clair Co] Alabama and moved to Willis from Texas 36 years ago. That community had been their home ever since until the Denison dam claimed much of the Willis property. When a young girl, Mrs. Cowen joined the Methodist church. After her marriage she became a Baptist, was an active church worker and a great worker in community affairs. Surviving are five children, Mrs. L. W. Jacquess, Earth [sic], Tex; Mrs. Fultz of Willis; Lloyd and Leonard Cowen of Ada; Billie Cowen of California; 37 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Dewey RIley was in charge of the services at Willis, assisted by M.U. Ayres. Madill Baptist church choir furnished music. Intement was at Willis Cemetery. ---27 July 1944--- [She died 25 July 1944.
