"Uncle Tobe", as he was know to all of us, was born at McKinney, TX, August 12, 1857. At the time of his death he was 76 years, 7 months and 17 days of age. He had been in failing health ever since the death of his wife, Aunt Mary, who passed on March 25, 1932. The pallbearers were as follows: Price Thompson, John Thompson. R.Y. Turner, Cad Turner, Walter Blakley, and Rex Smith. He was laid to rest beside his wife in Woodbury-Forrest cemetery. He leaves to mourn his death the following children: Mrs. George Hand, Frisco, Texas; Mack Herndon, Price Herndon, Mrs. Ed Gimlin, and Pete Herndon of Madill, and Mrs. J.E. Purnell of Shay. Thirty-one grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. The following out of town people were present: Mrs. George Hand, Mack Hand, Mr and Mrs. Pat Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Thad Robertson, and son of Frisco, Texas; Dink Herndon, J.C. Moore, Huey Herndon, and Schula Moore of McKinney, Texas; Grover Herndon, Mrs. Wood Herndon, Mrs. Alice Herndon Wisdom and daughter all of Ardmore; Mrs. Cleo Herndon Rogers of Ft. Worth, Texas; Mrs. Nora Gulliat and Jack Herndon of Denison. He leaves a host of friend in Marshall county and Collin county, Texas to mourn his death. Tribute Paid to County Pioneer Tribute to Walter Leslie, "Uncle Tobe", Herndon was paid at 2:30 Friday afternoon when friends gathered at Woodbury-Forrest cemetery to pay their last respects to one of Marshall county's best known citizens. Milam E. Ewing conducted the services and Watts Funeral Home was in charge of interment. Special music was offered by Rev. and Mrs. John W. Pigg, Mr. and Mrs. Earl E. Ayres, and Mr. Ewing. "Uncle Tobe" died at 2:25 Thursday afternoon at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Price Herndon, following an illness caused from complications of kidney trouble. He was 76 years old.
