Norman Dean Spivey, 53, died Tuesday following an extended illness with the disease that claimed Lou Gehrig and bearing the famous baseball player's name. Mr. Spivey died in an Ardmore hospital where he had been critically ill nine days with respiratory problems. Funeral services for the long-time resident of the Madill and Oakland area were conducted Wednesday afternoon from Watts Memorial Chapel. Vance Crowe, Minister with the Madill Church of Christ, where Mr. Spivey was a member, officiated. Service music was arranged by the Madill Church of Christ singers with Lucille Murray in charge. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. Mr. Spivey was born at Three Sands, Okla., near Tonkawa. He was reared in the Madill and Oakland area and attended the Chilocco Indian School in northern Oklahoma for his formal education. He and his wife, the former Ruby Williams, were married Feb. 17, 1943, in Tishomingo. Employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. until ill health forced his retirement in 1975, Mr. Spivey had worked for the telephone company 33 years. In addition to his wife of the family home at 305 West Francis. Mr. Spivey is survived by two sons Towana of Duncan and Dustin Spivey of Madill, and a daughter, Tamera, also of Madill. also surviving are four grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Gladys Lynn of Oakland and two sisters, Mrs. Weetona Stanley, east of Madill, and Mrs. Mary Huebsch of the Oakland area.
