POWELL, 87, DIES SUNDAY Robert Kelly Powell, and 87-year-old native of Oakland, I.T., died Sunday night. His death followed a heart attack suffered at his Oakland home. Mr. Powell had returned home during the weekend following an extended visit with his children in Hartshorne, Oklahoma City and Gulfport, Miss. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning from Watts Memorial Chapel. Vance Crowe, Madill Church of Christ minister, officiated. He was assisted by Wilbert Wiggs, preacher for the Oakland Church of Christ where Mr. Powell was a member. Singing was arranged by Mary Huebsch. Born Aug. 1, 1890, Mr. Powell was reared in this area. He and his late wife, the former Lena Bell Lynn, were married Feb. 8, 1921, in Madill. Mrs. Powell died Aug. 3, 1975. Mr. Powell was a veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Army from Sept. 9, 1917, until May 1, 1919. He and Mrs. Powell made their home in Oakland until 1929 when they moved to Oklahoma City. They returned to Oakland in 1940 while he was associated with Franklin Oil Co. He had also engaged in the trucking business for a period of time. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lee Allen of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Alecia Farrimond of Harshorne, and a son Bobby Powell of Gulfport. also surviving are eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces, many of them residents of this area. Casket escorts for the services and burial in the Oakland Cemetery were Roy Garrison, Curtis Hallmark, Ira Ivy, C.E. McMasters, Mike Walker and Overton Wilson.
