Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. ---------------------------------------------------- MADILL RECORD AUGUST 7, 1975 Page 5 A LENA POWELL'S SERVICE HELD Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Lena Bell Powell, a long time Oakland resident. O.J. Russell officiated for the services from Watts Memorial Chapel. Don Tarbet assisted. Singing was under the direction of Mary Huebach. Mrs. Powell was born December 10, 1896 in Mannsville, I.T. At age three she moved to Oakland where she lived until 1929. She and Robert Kelly Powell were married in Madill Febuary 8, 1921. The couple moved to Oklahoma City in 1929 and lived there until 1938. In 1940 they returned to Oakland where Mrs. Powell lived the remainder of her life. She was a self taught to be an artist and painted old landmarks and church baptistry paintings. Mrs. Powell worked at Peterson's and Sharpe's department stores in Madill for 10 years. A member of the Church of Christ since she was 15 years old, she died Sunday evening at an Oklahoma City Hospital at the age of 76. She had been in ill health for three months. Surviving Mrs. Powell in addition to her husband of the Oakland home are two daughters, Mrs. Lee Allen of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Alecia Farrimond of Hartshorne and a son, Bobby Powell of Gulfport, Miss. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Feeney of Grand Prairie, Tex. and Lazelle Cornelson of Oakland, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers for the services were Jim Davis, Ira Ivy, Aubrey Lynn, Woodrow McGill, C.E. McMasters, John Rorex, Mike Walker and Otis Ward. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.
